Registration of 1,356 industries cancelled

Gaur, Oct.4: The registration of 1,365 small and cottage industries of Gaur district have been cancelled for not renewing their registration on time.

According to the Small and Cottage Industries programme there are 2,106 small and cottage industries have registered since 2040/41 fiscal year.

Ram Narayan Jha, an official at the Small and Cottage Industries programme, said the firms whose registration have been cancelled are 875 rice mills, 183 contract firms, 70 tobacco and bidi firm, 52 brick industries, 36 wood and furniture industries, 44 food stuff producing industries, 34 workshops, 15 grills and shutter-making firms and 7 oil and pulse mills.

Similarly, the registrations of one handicraft and spice industry each, two lodges, industry producing raw material for cement, soap producer, leather goods producer, transportation service, consultancy each, three teaching centres, plastic based industries, readymade clothes each, four printing presses and five medical stores. Similarly, 30 other industries have also their registrations cancelled.

Even among the newly registered industries only 35 to 40 per cent of them are running and about 10 to 15 per cent have been shut down.

However, Jha said many of the industries, whose registration have been cancelled, are running, but the owners or proprietor are too lazy or negligent to renew their firms. He also said the firms whose registration have been cancelled, can not be renewed and they will have to start the process all over again. Meanwhile, there are also many firms who have been running without registering them. We are suggesting such firms to register otherwise they will be shut down, Jha said.


‘Nepalese tea has good prospect in Japan’

Kathmandu, Oct. 4 (RSS): A programme was organized at the residence of the Royal Nepalese Ambassador in Tokyo Kedar B. Mathema to introduce Nepal Tea in Japan.

The event was jointly organized by the Royal Nepalese Embassy, Nepal Tea and Coffee Boards and Nepal Pavilion.

Welcoming the guests, Ambassador Mathema highlighted the high quality of Nepal tea and added that one of the most distinguished features of Nepal Tea is that most tea in Nepal is cultivated in virgin soil of hill slopes with minimum or no use of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides.

Guest of honor Wataru Kubo, former deputy prime minister, who was till recently President of Japan Nepal Parliamentary Association of Friendship, expressed his happiness at the efforts made by Royal Nepalese Embassy to introduce Nepal Tea in Japan and said that Nepal Tea, because of its high quality has very good prospect in Japanese tea market.

Executive director of Nepal Tea and Coffee Board Mukti Raj Sharma, outlining the history of tea cultivation in Nepal said that Nepal Tea is grown by a most eco friendly method and is therefore becoming very popular among tea connoissures.

Later in the programme, Nepali snacks and tea were served and the guests were entertained with Nepali folk dance and music. Each guest was given gifts of tea bags and Nepal tourism brochures after the programme.


ADB has reduced interest rate; Mahat informs

Kathmandu (RSS): Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat, responding to the questions raised by MPs during question-answer session at the House of Representatives today, said that the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) which fixes interest rate on the loans it floats to farmers keeping in view their utmost interest, has reduced interest rate on all type of loans.

Due to the reduction in interest rate provided by the banks in the deposits of the general people, the government is also pressurizing the ADB to reduce its interest rate for the farmers.

In reply to a query, he disclosed that the process for running the proposed Small Farmers’ and Cooperatives bank is underway.

Referring to the positive impact on revenue mobilisation following the deployment of Royal Nepalese Army at the custom points, Dr. Mahat said revenue has gone up to Rs 380 million in the fiscal year 2057/58 compared to the corresponding period of last fiscal year.

A body will be set up to check up the physical quality of any project from its very beginning up to its operation so as to ensure quality of the physical infrastructures in the country, he said.

MPs Bijaya Subba, Ananda Prasad Pokharel and Parashuram Meghi Gurung had asked the Minister questions.


Nepal Business Day in Berlin

Kathmandu (RSS): The Nepal Business Day organised at the Berlin City Hall under the Asia-Pacific week concluded recently.

The Nepal Trade Fair was participated in by officials of the German Asia Business Club, various institutions and associations, Royal Nepalese Embassy, Nepalese and German businessmen, Berlin government and Berlin senate.

Speaking on the occasion Royal Nepalese Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany Balaram Singh Malla said that there a lot of opportunities for making investments in water resources, industries and tourism sector in Nepal.

The chief of the South Asia section of the German Government Economic Cooperation and Development Ministry read out the message given by the German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development and threw light on various aspects of Nepal-German cooperation.

The state secretary of Berlin senate, honorary Royal Nepalese Consul General Bodo Kruger, honorary Royal Nepalese Counsul General Ann-Katrin Bauknecht and president of the Nepal German Friendship Association Ram Thapa also expressed their views.

On the occasion the Nepalese Cultural Troupe led by senior dance director Basanta Shrestha had staged a cultural programme.
