Basnyat wins Oktoberfest gold tourney

Kathmandu, Oct. 6: In the Oktoberfest Golf Tournament-2001 held at Pokhara, Deep Basnyat clinched the winner title with 37 points while Paresh Lama became runner up with 37 points (lost in a count back). Similarly, C.B. Bhandari, Balaram Thapa and Yogesh Thapa won the best gross, longest drive and most birdies titles respectively.

Likewise best sportsman-ships title went to Anton Hagen.

Jenny Roe and Eloise Hagan became the ladies winner and ladies runnerup respectively.

Chairman of the Fulbari Resort and Spa Piush Bahadur Amatya distributed cups and other prizes to the winners amidst a function.

There were 36 participants in the championship.

Radio men blast Gorkhapatra Corp. away

Kathmandu, Oct.6: Radio Nepal defeated the Gorkhapatra Corporation 3-1 in a football friendly match played today at Jawalakhel Ground. The match was played to mark the arrival of the festival of Dashain.

Despite taking lead in the first half, Gorkhapatra had to suffer the defeat in the match that witnessed innumerable substitutions from the both teams.

Narayan Upadhyay opened the score for the Gorkhapatra Corporation but the lead did not last long as Santosh Ojha of the Radio Nepal leveled the score after five minutes of the first goal.

After playing 1-1 draw in the first half, mostly dominated by the Gorkhapatra Corporation, Radio Nepal players bounced back in the second half. Assisted by Gorkhapatra players’ lack of stamina and match practice, Radio men consolidated their lead in the second half through Amit Bhattarai’s header to make the score 2-1 in favour of the Radio. Rajesh Pandey sealed the fate of Gorkhapatra men towards the fag end of the game when he slammed the third goal for his team.
