Keshav surpasses computer

Kathmandu, Oct. 8: In the Ninth and final round of ongoing Late Rambir Memorial Chess Competition, Nepal Champion Keshav Lal Shrestha became winner with the progressive mark 41 while his opponent computer got 40.5 mark, Monday.

In the final rounds, Keshav Lal Shrestha stopped Badrilal Nepali for a draw while computer defeated Dharu Lama. Similarly, Nabin Tandukar beat Balaram Napit, Anil Prajapati defeated Gyanendra Khayaja, while Rajendra Bajracharya and Rabindra Shakya held for a draw. Similarly, Sitaram Argrawal beat Rajan Chhetri, Rajendra P. Shrestha beat Maniraj Dangi, Janardhan Shrestha beat Mahesh Shrestha and Baburaja Maharjan beat Triratna Shrestha.

The championship was organised by Lalitpur Chess Association.


Santosh, Rabin in semis

Kathmandu, Oct. 8: In the ongoing Wangdi-Darshan Cup Inter Airlines Snooker championship, Captain Shantosh Sharma defeated Captain Shrawan Rijal 3-0 to enter semifinals, Monday. In the same way Captain Rabin Gauchan entered semifinals by beating Captain Deepak Narsing Rana 3-1.

In the semifinals, Santosh Sharma will face Pradip Rajbhandari while Rabin Gauchan will take on Rabin Karmacharya.


Programme to mark ace runner’s birth anniversary

Kathmandu, Oct. 8: Sports Nepal Olympic Museum (SNOM) is to organise a marathon on October 23 to mark the 50th birth anniversary of Nepal’s ace marathon runner Baikuntha Manandhar, SNOM press release stated. Four long distance runners Ramkrishna Maharjan, Bimala Ranamagar, Ratna Tuladhar and Baikuntha Manandhar will begin the run from Kathmandu, covering the distance of 50 km, upto Muktinath. Harati Newari Restaurant will sponsor the programme.

On the occasion of Baikuntha’s birth anniversary, National Institute of Sports Science Physical and Health Education will conduct a research on his physical fitness, the press release stated.
