A recent news report stated that the government agencies have not settled their accounts amounting to more than 26 billion rupees. The figure shows the disheartening situation of the economic affairs of the state, which is facing an acute resource crunch. There are a lot of things to be done before we can economically rank ourselves at par with our neighbours. We have not been able to link all the district headquarters with motorable roads. Merely 15 per cent of more than 23 million population has access to electricity. This is something humiliating, especially in the present context when the rest of the world boasts to have entered the computer age. If the present trend continues, Nepal, which has already been listed as one of the least developed countries in the world, will surely fall into deeper pit of crisis. Against such a gloomy background, if even the government agencies fail to settle the unaccounted for fund of the state, hardly any saviour can save the nation. Therefore, the government agencies that have the responsibility of nation building and providing people with some relief need to be honest first before pointing fingers to others. Mahesh Subedi |
