Malaysia enter final of U-19 Asia Cup

Kathmandu, Oct.15: Malaysia entered the final of U-19 Asia Youth Cricket Cup beating Singapore by 6 wickets in the semifinals played at Engineering College Ground.

In a low scoring match, Singapore could not stand the attack of Malaysian bowler Ridzuan Abu Baker and collapsed to a humiliating 67-9 in 32 overs. Baker who received man of the match award claimed four wickets. Baker’s impressive bowling figure was 5-3-6-4.

In reply Malaysia scored 69 for four in just 13.5 overs to make the final showdown with host Nepal on Thursday in Kirtipur. Malaysian openers S. Goptinath (19 runs) and Azhar Zainal’s 18 runs ensured their victory.


Shitate scales Mt. Dhaulagiri

Kathmandu: Ryoichi Shitate (1972), student from Kyotanabe-Shi, Kyoto, Japan, one of the members of Kyoto Dhaulagiri-I Expedition 2001 successfully climbed the summit of 8157 metre high Mt. Dhaulagiri I on 12th Oct., 2001 from North East Ridge. This is stated in a press release issued by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation today.

The seven (7) member expedition team was permitted to climb Mt. Dhaulagiri I from N. E. Ridge during the Autumn Season of 2001 under the leadership of Ryoji Yadama (1963), company employee from Higashinada-Ku, Kobe, Japan.
