Call For A Responsible Media

It is our common experience to see the toppers of some board examinations being treated like celebrities. It goes so much so that all the papers and magazines are filled with their photographs, interviews and so on and so forth even months after the results are published.

The question I would like to put up to the media is what about those students who worked just as hard and passed the examination? Isn’t their effort worth anything? I mean, is being among the top ten all that counts in this nation? What about those who stood 11th, 12th or so forth missing the 10th position by just a mark or so? Aren’t they the winners as well? And what about those students who worked day and night just to pass the examination? We all know that there is no system of rechecking the answer sheets either in the SLC board or the TU. With this in mind, how sure can we be that the results published are fair? Couldn’t it be that there are some students who despite having worked very hard have come out far below the top ten or even failed sometimes? Being a student myself, I have found that this sort of misfortunes do occur.

I would like to say that the media can play a crucial role to set things right. Isn’t the media responsible for unveiling the truth? Unless the media probed the injustice meted out to students, its responsibility would remain incomplete. Shouldn’t the media take its time to be more objective and thereby contribute to correct the faulty evaluation system?
