Free education to backward communities urged Lalitpur, Oct. 21 (RSS): Member-secretary of the Social Welfare Council Dr. Tika Pokhrel inaugurated the 14th anniversary function of Kumbheshwor Technical School here today. On the occasion, Dr. Pokhrel appreciated the efforts of the school carried out for uplifting the social status of children from backward and downtrodden communities by providing them free education, and also spoke of the need to expand such activities in other parts of the country also. Member-secretary of the schools board of directors Kiran Khadgi, presenting an annual report of the school, said that the school has significantly contributed to providing education to children from backward communities by offering them training courses in carpentry, carpet-weaving, sweater-weaving, etc. Schools principal Ms Karuna Khadgi and others also spoke at the function chaired by social worker Siddhi Bahadur Khadgi. At the same function, Dr. Pokhrel also gave away prizes to various students winning annual class examinations and certificates to trainees. A cultural programme was also presented on the occasion. Maintain close ties with people, policemen told Itahari, Oct. 21 (RSS): The week-long training on reduction of crime, sexual exploitation of women and children and women trafficking organised by the Nepal Police Headquarters Crime Investigation Department and the National Police Training Academy, Maharajgunj for the police officers of the Eastern Development Region concluded in Dharan recently. Altogether 30 police inspectors and sub-inspectors of the Terai Giving away certificates to the police officers, AIGP Govinda Prasad Thapa said that the policemen should maintain very close relations with the people to check crimes from taking place. DIG Him Bahadur Gurung said that the police should work actively to control crime with the cooperation of the civil society. Mayor of Dharan Municipality Manoj Kumar Meyanbo, SSP Devilal Tamang, Balkumari Limbu, Sakuntala Subba, Bhanu Pathak, SP Chuda Bahadur Shrestha, Sumitra Bhandari and Dipak Rai also expressed their views on the occasion. On the occasion, it was decided to constitute a committee under the convenorship of Sarala Kayastha to provide free education to the children at risk with the cooperation of PABSON. Bhandari stresses health research Itahari, Oct. 21 (RSS): Minister for Health Sharat Singh Bhandari has said that the medical doctors and surgeons should opt for finding remedial measures in the face of the complexities seen in the medical science which is advancing along with the advancement of science and technology. Speaking at the two-day workshop on heart related diseases here yesterday, Minister Bhandari said in view of the vigorous attempts being made in the diagnosis and cure of diseases of the people living in the developing countries, all the developing countries of South Asia should be steadfast in its efforts in carrying on research and analysis in the health sector. He also expressed the hope that the participants would succeed in finding affordable and simple treatment methodology for all types of heart diseases by analyzing the poor financial status of the Nepalese people. Given the similarity in the state of public health, financial status and the food habit amongst the people of the South Asian countries, the workshop should focus its attention on exploring the new remedial measures on how the people of the entire South Asia region can derive maximum benefit, he added. Vice-Chancellor of B. P. Koirala Institute of Medical Science Dr. Shekhar Koirala noted that because of the tendency to come in touch with the medical doctors at the final stage coupled by financial difficulties and ignorance, more and more people have been suffering from various types of heart diseases. Coordinator of the workshop Prof. (Dr) Sridhar Diwedi said the heart problems are seen generally in the persons aged between 40 to 50 and the trend is more or less similar in nature in all the countries of South Asia. Prof. (Dr) Rama Gopalan highlighted the objectives and usefulness of the workshop at which 50 heart specialists from Nepal and India are taking part. |
