Nepal, India Trade Treaty will be signed soon: PM

Kathmandu, Oct. 28 (RSS) : Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the Nepal-India Trade Treaty will be signed in the near future bearing in mind the larger interests of the country.

Prime Minister Deuba was speaking at an interaction programme organized jointly by the Navadurga Bhavani Sewa Sangh and the Agrawal Services Centre.

On the occasion, industrialists Atmaram Murarka, Chiranji Lal Agrawal and Jagdish Agrawal said that given the economic slump that the country is seeing today it is imperative that the government take some effective long term measures for economic reform.

They also stressed the need to bear in mind the country’s economic, social and cultural interests while signing any Trade Treaty with India.

Industrialist Shankar Lal Kedia was of the view that in resognition of its significant contribution to the country’s economy, the Marwadi community should be represented in various sectors of national life.

Agrawal Services Centre president Mohan Gopal Khetan presided.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has hoped that Vijaya Dashami would guide us all along the path of peace, happiness, progress and prosperity.

Mr Deuba, who was inaugurating a cultural program organized by the Nawadurga Bhawani Sangh and the Agrawal Sewa Kendra on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami today, extended thanks to the Agrawal Society for its contribution to raising social and religious awareness by installing idols of deities including Goddess Durga and by organizing worships at various places.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister also launched the "Shree Durga Stuti", a collection of paeans dedicated to Goddess Durga, published by the Sangh.

The function was chaired by chairman of the center Mohan Gopal Khetan.


Construction works of Kaligandaki ‘A’ completed

Syangja, Oct. 28 (RSS) : Almost 96 percent of the construction works of the Kaligandaki "A" under implementation has been completed hitherto, it is learnt from the project sources.

According to the original schedule of the project, the construction work of which began in 1997, its implementation was to be completed by the end of 2000. But because of the technical difficulties, it will be completed towards the end of 2001 and the trial generation of power is scheduled in the beginning of 2002.

In the 1970s the "Snowy Mountain Engineering Corporation" which is an Australian Consulting Firm had shown Kaligandaki "A" to be the most attractive among the 37 feasible projects including the Gandaki basin under the aegis of the United Nations Development Programme. Then, its study was undertaken.

After the project report was prepared in 1993, its engineering plan was prepared with the credit assistance of the Asian Development Bank.

The construction of the power house and the dam of the 144-capacity project have been completed and electro-mechanical work at the structures have begun.

The implementation of the project began in 1997 with the cooperation of ADB, Japan Overseas Economic Development Fund, HMG and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
