Need To Inject Life To National Theatre

Though most of the senior cinema artistes catapulted to limelight of filmdom from their theatrical debut, nobody seems to be interested to revive the platform they jumped from. Yet they boldly say that the live performances in theatre far surpass the artificial movie acting. Besides occasional performance of drama for charity the state-owned National Theatre has become almost vacant and lifeless for years. With a very few dramas being staged in the theatre it seems as if there is no drama audience, as all eyes seem to be fixed on movies and television serials. Movies can never replace dramas. Many prefer dramas to movies because live performances are lively and more effective than all those fictitious recorded things people watch on the screen. At such a disheartening situation, something has to be done to revive the theatre culture that promotes national language and literature. Therefore, I sincerely urge all the conscious citizens, who have love and respect for Nepali language and literature, to join hands together and launch some activities towards this end. And one of the best ways to begin would be to organise national drama festival, as was often done in the past.
