Separate unit to monitor hospitals, says Bhandari Pokhara, Sept. 1 (RSS):Minister for Health Sharat Singh Bhandari has said that attempts are being made to set up a suitable unit in the ministry to monitor the hospitals across the kingdom. Minister Bhandari was addressing the concluding function of the western regional review and planning seminar organised here by the Department of Health Services and the Regional Health Services Directorate. Disclosing that the government is updating the health services act in a coordinated manner, the Health Minister said that the need for the health workers to reach out to the grassroots level with better services. Speaking about opportunities for career development of employees in the health sector, he said that transfer of the employees would take place pursuant to relevant policy. Director General of the Department of Health Services Dr. B. D. Chataut and Western Regional Health Services director Dr. Ashok Kumar Chaurasiya also expressed their views on the occasion. Participating in the six-day seminar were 80 persons including officers of the ministry, department and directorate, and health office chiefs, public health officers and representatives of all sixteen districts of the western region. Butwal, Sept. 1 (RSS): Student unions at the Butwal Multiple Campus have locked out the campus chiefs chamber demanding that the entrance tests being conducted by the Tribhuvan University for admission to proficiency certificate level in education and science streams be scrapped as the tests were "meaningless". As a result of the differences of opinion between the campus administration and the students unions regarding the entrance tests, the campus has not been able to conduct the entrance tests of the Faculty of Education and the entrance test of Institute of Science and Technology scheduled for August 9 and 28 respectively, although the Tribhuvan University has directed the campus to go ahead with the tests. The students unions have been highly critical of the system of entrance tests saying that it was not effective and only acted as a barrier for higher studies. They have been demanding that the students should get the chance to study the subject of their choice. Youth leadership solves problems Pokhara, Sept. 1 (RSS): Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Chitra Lekha Yadav has spoken of the need for youth leadership to resolve the problems facing education, health and economic sectors. She made this remark while concluding the "Jaycees Week-2058" and felicitation function of Lekhnath Jaycees in Lekhnath municipality today. Mrs Yadav also distributed prizes and letters of appreciation to Jaycees officials and students of government and private schools who secured the highest marks in SLC exams in the Municipality. Various others including Mayor Shaligram Paudel also spoke at the function chaired by Jaycees chairman Surendra Adhikari. Marketing problems in Nepal discussed Kathmandu, Sept. 1 (RSS): An interaction between the office-bearers of representative industrial and business organisations and representatives of sales organisations was held under the aegis of the Department of Cottage and Small Industries here yesterday. The interaction was organised with the objective of contributing to the market access of goods produced in Nepal in the domestic as well as international market and to help build a strong economy by promoting industries and business. Representatives from the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), the Federation of Cottage and Small Scale Industries, Federation of Handicraft Industries of Nepal, the Central Carpet Industries Association, the Pashmina Industries Association, Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Handicraft Entrepreneurs took part in the interaction. At the programme, director general of the Department of Cottage and Small Industries Lilamani Poudyal said that the interaction was held in order to help boost the trade of Nepali products. He said it is necessary to promote the use of indigenous products among the people of the country. The Department of Cottage and Small Scale Industries is ready to act as a facilitator and promoter for increasing the access of Nepalese products in the international and domestic market on the basis of policy procedures. The president of the Federation of Cottage and Small Scale Industries, president of the Central Carpet Industries Association and other industrialists participating at the programme spoke on various problems for promoting the market access of Nepalese products. Proprietors of departmental stores urged the producers to manufacture consumer goods according to the tastes of the consumers. They said that they are ready to exhibit and sell indigenous goods. Employment for ex-Kamaiyas assured Jomsom, Sept. 1 (RSS): An arrangement is to be made to relocate 80 ex-Kamaiya families and 20 oppressed families of Kanchanpur district and provide them employment in Mustang district in various fields such as agriculture, tourism, livestock and hotel businesses. An agreement has been reached between Mustang DDC president Nirmal Kumar Guachan and Kanchanpur DDC president Rishi Raj Lumsali to expedite the pace of development in Mustang and Kanchanpur districts after conducting a feasibility study on exploring appropriate areas for the creation of employment opportunities. According to Mustang DDC chairman Gauchan, the understanding was reached between the two DDCs to size up the over population of labourers in Kanchanpur district as well as to create employment opportunity to the new-comers in Mustang district that is witnessing diminution in its population. |
