Initiatives Needed To Make Capital Look Better

Waste management is more difficult than it is generally considered to be. The task is made even tougher by the fact that the population of Kathmandu valley has increased at a rapid pace, which was incomparable over two decades back. Construction activities specially related to housing and business complexes have gone up. The management of garbage is another equally problematic aspect of the city administration. The introduction of plastic goods has complicated the problem of the disposal of rubbish.

This presents a bleak picture as far as keeping the city clean is concerned. Though almost all the municipalities are facing the garbage disposal problem, it is acutely felt in Kathmandu as it the capital, which is the first stopover of the tourists visiting this country. This may give a wrong impression about Nepal to the tourists, who are one of the most important sources of foreign currency.
