High Entrance Fee In Bhaktapur

We are a group of Spanish tourists visiting Nepal for a week. On August the 20th, we decided to go to Bhaktapur. When we arrived at the entrance of Bhaktapur’s Durbur Square we were asked to pay 10 US dollars per person. We thought that this amount was too high, and we also noticed that only white people had to pay for entrance. We talked with the person in charge trying to find an explanation. The only answer we got was that the amount was not a big deal for white people, and that this money is used to restore the city. We had only two options: pay 10 dollars or immediately leave the city without even having the possibility to walk in any of the streets out of the Durbar Square.

We agreed by paying an entrance like Rs. 200 in Patan, but we think that $ 10 is an absolute abuse. We haven’t been asked to pay this amount of money in any other country in the world.

We are really disappointed about that issue that has left a black spot in our otherwise pleasant stay in Nepal.

We have decided to do whatever it’s necessary, once we are back in Spain, to let people know what happened to us.
