Nepalese squash team leave for Pakistan

Kathmandu, Sept. 6: A five-member Nepalese squash team that would participate in the upcoming 9th South Asian Federation Games left for Pakistan for receiving training from the Pakistan Squash Federation.

The Nepalese squash players are the first among all the players selected for the 9th SAF Games who will receive training abroad. The team is comprised of four players and one coach.It is led by coach Dhruba Bahadur Gurung. The squash players Hira Bahadur Thapa, Suresh Kumar Gurung, Amrit Bahadur Ale and Satya Narayan Shrestha will receive training from Pakista Squash Federation.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Binod Shankar Palikhe saw off the team amidst a function today at his office at the Dashrath Stadium Sports Complex.

At the function, Palikhe said that all the SAARC member state must particpate SAF Games in the true spirit of SAARC. He said that the government has invested about 35 million rupees in the Nepalese team for enahncing national pride, international friendship in the foreign soil. The SAF Games are important for consolidating fraternity and goodwill among SAARC member countries, said Palikhe.

He expressed his gratitude to Pakistan Embassy and Pakistan government for providing necessary assistance for Nepalese players to participate in the training camps in Pakistan, a nationa known for squash prowess in all over the world. At the finction Nepal squash and racket assocaiton president Amar Singh and other NSC officials were also present.

Meanwhile the national shooting team from Bhutan arrived in the capital today for the ten-day shooting training in Nepal. NSC’s chief shooting coach Dhrub Bikram Shah will coach the Bhtuanese team.
