Trade co-operation with Asia Pacific region stressed

Kathmandu, Sept. 7: Entrepreneurs related to freight and forwarding business have stressed on regional co-operation to promote trade among the countries in the Asia Pacific region.

In a programme organised by Nepal Freight Forwarders’ Association in the capital recently, the former President of Asia Pacific Air Cargo Association (FAPAA) and South Asia Federation of Freight Forwarders Association (SAFA) D. Hallak said that the less developed countries of the region should learn from the more advanced countries of the region.

According to Nepal Freight Forwarders Association (NEFFA), he said some countries of the region including Nepal are marred by political problems, still these countries can learn from the experience of FAPAA, which has made a name for itself in the world.

The FAPAA Working Committee has Australia, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, The Phillipines, Taiwan, Singapore, Bangladesh, India, Macau, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

He said the countries belonging to the working committee should show enthusiasm to learn from the policies and concept of the more advanced countries.

Speaking at the meeting, President of NEFFA Ranbindra Man singh said the Association is making contribution to the country’s export and import since the last three years. But he said the political instability and problems in transit have created obstruction to import and export.

He also said the cost of export and import business more for Nepal, it being a land-locked country, and this is an obstacle it has to face.
