Monarchy symbol of national unity: Singh Janakpurdham, Sept. 9 (RSS): President of the Nepal Sadbhawana Party Gajendra Narayan Singh has said that in a multi-lingual and multi-racial country like ours, the institution of Monarchy is the symbol of national unity. Singh, who was talking to the press here today, noted that if the constitution amendment should be made at all, it should be done by the provision of the constitutional Monarchy and multi-party democracy intact. Stating that the Maoists have vitiated the atmosphere through intimidation, the NSP chief accused the Maoists of trying to cause a chasm among the Terai people by forming the Madhishe Mukti Morcha. The Maoists have been created as a bogey and they cant really do anything if the government provides security to the people who are now ready to fight against them, he said and accused the Maoists of trying to disrupt the environment for talks through intimidation and extortion. Noting that the land ceiling is not in favor of farmers, Mr Singh claimed that the poor people will be more benefited if the ceiling is imposed on property. Refugee kills BPPs chief in Damak BY OUR CORRESPONDENT Jhapa, Sept. 9: An influential leader and founding chairman of the Bhutanese Peoples Party R. K. (Raj Kumar) Budhathoki has been killed by a refugee youth this afternoon. Budhathoki was struck on the neck with a Khukuri at about 3:45 P.M. by a youth when he was talking about the Bhutanese Youth Organisation at his office in Damak, Jhapa. Suddenly, he was struck on the neck by a member of the Bhutanese youth cadre. Budhathoki was immediately taken to Amda Hospital, but doctors there believe he was brought dead. When the incident happened Budhathoki, along with BPPs General Secretary Balaram Poudel, District President Gopal Gurung and D.S. Kafle were talking with about 13 refugee youths. The post mortem of Budhathokis body will be carried out at Mechi Hospital tomorrow and after this the last rites will be performed at Kankai River. According to DSP of Jhapa district Govinda Niraula, the police are looking for the killer although he did not identify the youth who killed Budhathoki. Meanwhile, Balaram Poudel said the youth who struck Budhathoki had come from the Pathari Camp. He said the attack occured when they were discussing about the verification process and Budhathoki was answering to the questions raised by the youths coming from different camps. The youth who attacked had earlier gone to the verandah, but he had suddenly entered the room and attacked Budhathoki with a Khukuri. Several other youths had tried to take the Khukuri from him. After the attack the named youth had jumped from the verandah and had fled in a red jeep. Meanwhile, Human Rights and Peace Society today demanded that the government should form a high level probe body for the investigation on the murder of the Bhutanese refugee leader. PM appoints his secretaries, other staff Kathmandu, Sept. 9 (RSS): Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has appointed l0th general convention representative from Dadeldhura district and general committee member Govinda Raj Bohara and Ratan Bahadur Aeir to the posts of the personal secretary. Likewise, Dadeldhura district NC l0th general convention representative Karna Bahadur Malla has been appointed personal joint-secretary, it is learnt from the Private Secretariat of the Prime Minister. A joint secretary, three under-secretaries, five section officers, a computer officer and an accountant officer have been appointed to carry out the functions of the Private Secretariat. Newly appointed personal secretary Bohara, who started in politics from the Nepal Students Union in 2036, was the NC candidate for District Development Committee (DDC) chairman in the last local elections. He was also the personal joint-secretary when Deuba was last prime minister. Likewise, newly appointed personal joint secretary Malla was the NC candidate for DDC vice-chairman. |
