Rules are made and forgotten in Nepal. There was a time when the rule had made it mandatory for cyclists to have night lights in their bicycle. Traffic cops, couple of years back were seen to be taking stringent action against the offenders. After the campaign of booking those who were found to be flouting the rule, people seemed to be pretty serious about installing lights in their bicycles. But with the flow of time people got back to their normal habit of going around without the night lights. These days too, the problem of cyclist braving their way through the dark streets is a common scene. This has in turn jeopardised their lives and has resulted in many accidents. It is high time that the cops did something to protect the cyclists from encountering accidents and revived the rule, which is no longer being followed. Manoj Shrestha |
