House approves condolence message, MPs slam the attack
Nepal denounces terrorists' attack in US

Kathmandu, Sept. 12: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said that the Nepalese people have been deeply shocked and stunned hearing the terrorist attack in New York and Washington cities of the United States on Tuesday morning.

"His Majesty's Government strongly condemns this horrendous act of terrorism," Prime Minister Deuba said in his speeches today at both the Houses of the parliament separately.

"On behalf of the Nepalese people and His Majesty's Government, I want to express my deepest sympathy and condolences to the US President George W. Bush and through him to all American people and relatives and families of those killed in the attacks," Prime Minister Deuba said.

At this hour when the whole world is shocked and stunned, I want to reiterate His Majesty’s Government’s clear commitment to denounce any kind of terrorism and terrorist activity causing destruction and panic in the world in any name and pretext, he said.

Against the background of this dreadful terrorist attack, the government has decided to alert and tighten all its security organs and management to avoid the loss of lives and properties of both Nepalese and foreigners in the Nepalese land, Prime Minister informed the Parliament.

He also informed that an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers today decided to mobilise security organs with high alert for the security of foreign citizens, missions, development projects and airlines services including others places of public importance.

Premier further noted that this event has compelled us to think about launching campaigns by all the governments of the world and people in forging mutual co-operation and understanding against terrorism to end this kind of brutal inclination from civilised society.

Any activity that aims to attain the political goal through violence, murder and terror does not benefit our civilised society, he added.

"The violence, murder and terror cannot be an alternative to peace, reconciliation and the democracy that grants the rights and paves the way to fearlessly express the public opinion."

Stating that we all Nepalese people condemn violence and terrorism, Prime Minister remarked, "We want to resolutely express the desire and rights of the whole humanity to live in a society free from fear, violence and terror."

Also speaking today, deputy leader of CPN-UML Parliamentary Committee K.P.Sharma Oli said that the UML strongly condemned this kind of terrorist attack and express deep condolence to the American people in the hour of shock and pains.

He said the attack that had stunned the whole world, was against the whole humanity.

He said that it was yet to disclose on why and for what purpose this attack was done, but it had caused immense loss of innocent lives and property.

On behalf of the Nepali Congress, MP Ramchandra Paudel said that it was the attack against the human civilisation.

Stating that terrorism was a cruel game that deceitfully killed innocent people and made heavy losses in the society, Paudel said, "We Nepalese people are also suffering of the pains of the terrorism."

He demanded that the government should inform about the condition of Nepalese residing in the USA.

Krishna Charan Shrestha of RPP and Badri Prasad Mandal of Nepal Sadbhawana Party said that it was the horrendous crime against the humanity and development and expressed the deep condolence to relatives of those who lost lives in the event.

Lilamani Pokharel of United People’s Front Nepal and Narayanman Bijukchhe of Nepal Workers and Peasant Party said that their party was deeply saddened over the death of the innocent people in the attack.

Pokharel, however, said that it was due to the imperialistic attitude of the United States that had reached to the climax, some terrorist group attacked it.

He also protested the adjournment of the House meeting to pass the condolence proposal by the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives today unanimously approved a proposal of condolence and condemned the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre in New York and in Pentagon, the US Defense Department in Washington D.C. Tuesday morning.

The consolence proposal passed by the Parliament today has prayed to the Almighty to give strength to the American people to bear in his hour of distress and for the peace of the departed souls. It also wished for the speedy recovery of the people wounded in this horrific event.

Deputy Speaker Chitralekha Yadav today had announced the adjournment of the first sitting of the House of Representatives as tribute to the people who lost lives in the attack.

The second sitting of the Parliament took place at 3 P.M.


HM expresses grief over loss of life

Kathmandu, Sept. 12 (RSS):  His Majesty King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev has said "We are shocked to learn of the horrific acts of terrorism resulting in the incalculable loss of lives and damage to property in the soil of the United States of America."

In a message sent Mr George Bush, President of the United States of America today, His Majesty said "Such cowardly acts violate all international norms and human dignity. They must be condemned as crimes against humanity and the perpretrators brough to justice." "As a nation which has always been a strong advocate of peace, Nepal believes that all countries must join hands in combating and eliminating terrorism from the world," His Majesty said.

His Majesty said "The government and people of Nepal joins US in conveying to your excellency and, through you, to the affected families along with the government and people of the United States of America our heartfelt condolences and sympathies in this hour of great tragedy."


PM, leaders express deep shock

Kathmandu, Sept 12 (RSS):  Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has, in a message sent to Mr George Bush, President of the United States of America today, said the news of terrorist attacks that struck in New York and Washington D.C. yesterday has come as a deep shock to US all.

Prime Minister Deuba said "At this hour of great tragedy, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences and sympathies to your excellency and through you to the bereaved and affected families, the people and government of the United States of America."


Terrorist Attack

Reiterating the unequivocal condemnation of His Majesty’s Government of all forms and manifestations of terrorism, Mr Deuba said "This dastardly act has once again brought to the fore the need for cooperation between the government and the peoples of the world to eradicate such evil from the civilized world."

Meanwhile, president of the Nepali Congress Girija Prasad Koirala has said "We in Nepal are deeply shocked by the barbaric act of terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, which has caused loss of innocent lives and property."

In a message sent to Mr George Bush, President of the United States of America today, Mr Koirala said this henious act of terrorism against humanity should be condemned and must not be allowed to continue.

"We are with the American people at this moment of grief and sorrow," Mr Koirala said, adding "We pray to god, to give strength and courage to those who have suffered and lost their family members and close ones to overcome this tradegy."

Likewise, founding leader of the Nepali Congress and ex-prime minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai has expressed deep shock over the loss of lives and property in the heinous attack by terrorists on the World Trade Centre in the USA, Tuesday morning.

In a statement given here this morning, Bhattarai while deploring the vain attack at the US president‘s residence and the government building of Pentagon said the perpetrators of the hateful murder should be sternly punished whoever they are or with whatever purpose they have done it.

Mr. Bhattarai also extended heart-felt condolences to the American President and the people of America in this hour of extreme grief.

RPP condemns: Rastriya Prajatantra Party has strongly deplored and condemned the terrorist attacks being made on various cities of the United States of America yesterday, according to a press release issued by the RPP Central Office here today.

The terrorist attacks made in a brutal and inhuman way were attacks on humanity and democracy, the press release states that the RPP feels that the world community should protest against such terrorist activities and face the challenge of rooting out such terrorist activities in what ever form it may be.

Praying for eternal peace to the departed souls of those killed in the terrorist attacks yesterday, RPP extended heartfelt condolences to U.S. President George Bush, the American people and government and all the members of the bereaved families.

Similarly, House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee members, at a meeting of the committee today, expressed profound sorrow at the massive loss of life and property in the terrorist incidents in the USA yesterday and also expressed sympathy towards all the American people.

At the meeting chaired by committee chairman Subas Nembang, a decision was taken to condemn such incidents.


Late Budhathoki cremated, leaders pay tributes

Jhapa, Sept. 12 (RSS):   The funeral rites of late R.K. Budhathoki, leader of Bhutanese People’s Party, was performed on the bank of Kankai river on Tuesday in accordance with vedic tradition.

Mr Budhathoki who had been living in exile was slain by an unidentified assailants with the help of Khukuris on September 10.

The funeral procession commenced from the residence of late Bhudhathoki at Birtamod.

At the conclusion of the procession, ex-minister and MP Krishna Prasad Sitaula expressed the view that the grief caused by the demise of late democratic leader Budhathoki should be turned into strength through concerted efforts.

Ex-minister Chandra Prakash Mainali demanded stern action against the murderers.

General Secretary of Bhutan People's Party Balram Poudel and Jagir Man Lama draped the body of late Budhathoki with the flag of the Bhutan People’s Party and declared him a martyr of the Bhutanese democratic movement.

Bhutanese refugee leader S.B. Subba, Gopal Krishna Shiwakoti of Inhured International and Hiranya Lal Shrestha of the CPN-ML paid tributes to late Budhathoki.


Maoists loot gold, force teachers to donate

Syangja, Sept. 12 (RSS): Maoists activists have looted about six tolas of gold ornaments from the house of Pijendra Bahadur Malla at Shekham VDC-2 of Syangja district.

Similarly, they are forcibly collected donations and other commodities from the local people at various parts of Chapakot and pressurised the local teachers to donate money equivalent to the remuneration of four days salary.

The Maoists also collected donations at Chisapani, Chinnebas, Galyang and the periphery of Kaligandaki 'A' Hydro Power Project and pressurised the transport entrepreneurs to make vehicles available to them for the mass meeting to be held in Kathmandu on September 21.


Deuba lauds role of army

Kharipati, Sept. 12 (RSS): Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Sher Bahadur Deuba commissioned 83 second lieutenants at a function held at the Royal Nepalese Army Academy, Kharipati today.

On the occasion Prime Minister Deuba presented Khukuris to Suruj Gurung who was declared best cadet in the second lieutenant basic training, Balkrishna Karki best cadet in academics, Maheswore Karki best cadet among graduates and Surya Bahadur Devkota best cadet among junior commissioned officers.

Speaking on the occasion Prime Minister Deuba said that the Royal Nepalese Army had maintained the glorious tradition of safeguarding national integrity as well as security.

Mr Deuba urged the second lieutenant cadets to fulfill their responsibility of serving as well as safeguarding the nation.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the commissioned officers will draw inspiration from the sacrifices and dedication made by their ancestors to maintain independent indentity of Nepal and continue the glorious tradition of the Royal Nepalese Army.

Mr Deuba also called on the officer cadets to fulfill the role of peace keeping in the international arena as well as guaranteeing development and security to the people.

On the occasion Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Deuba was presented salute by the officer cadets, graduate cadets and junior commissioned cadets.

Mr Deuba also inspected the parade organised by the commissioned cadets on the occasion.

Chief of the Army Staff General Prajwalla Shumsher J. B. Rana, MP Narayan Man Bijukchhe and high ranking officials of the Royal Nepalese Army were also present on the occasion.


NC forms committee on Parsa incident

Kathmandu, Sept. 12 (RSS): Nepali Congress Central Working Committee (NCCWC) has constituted a two-member committee to conduct an on the spot study of the various incidents which took place at Biruwaguthi, Bagwan, Jhulatar and other VDCs of Parsa district on September 8 and other VDCs later when the local people protested against the activities of the Maoists in the district and to present a factual report within the next five days.

Former minister and NCCWC member Dr. Rambaran Yadav and MP Jagannath Poudel are members of the committee, according to the press release issued today by the Nepali Congress central office.


NC, HR organisations condemns attacks

Kathmandu, Sept. 12 (RSS): The Nepali Congress has strongly condemned the barbaric terrorist attacks that took place in New York and Washington D.C. yesterday.

In a press release issued here today, the party has said terrorist activities like heinously killing innocent people, holding them hostage and inflicting physical and mental tourture, and destroying public property constitute a blot on human civilisation.

The party has also called on all peace loving nations to forge a solidarity and launch a strong campaign against such inhuman and destrictive activities which rob mankind of its right to live in peace.

It has paid tributes to those killed in the terrorist attacks and expressed condolences to the bereaved family members.

The party has also decided to close the central party office on Sept. 14 and lower the party flag to half mast in mourning at this hour of tragedy.

Likewise, the Human Rights Organisation of Nepal published a statement here today strongly denouncing the terrorist attack yesterday at the main administrative, commercial and defence centres in New York and Washington D.C. in the USA.

The statement signed by president of the organisation Sudeep Pathak extended heartfelt sympathy to the government and the people of the USA following the incident yesterday which it said was a blemish on human civilisation.

The organisation has paid heartfelt tributes to those who lost their lives in the tragic and deplorable incident, extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
