Extend help for development, PM tells industrialists Butwal, Sept. 15 (RSS): Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the industrialists should take a concrete decision on the role to be played by them for the development of the nation. In a message sent to the 21st general meeting of the Rupandehi Chamber of Commerce and Industry today, Prime Minister Deuba said that the industrialists should present their genuine views for industrial development as well as for protection and promotion of their rights and welfare. Inaugurating the 21st general meeting of Rupandehi Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today, chief district officer Tana Gautam said that the cooperation of everyone is necessary for safeguarding and promoting industries in the country. Member of the FNCCI central committee Gyanendra Kasaju expressed concern over the deteriorating conditions of the industries because of the lack of security. Deputy Mayor of Butwal Municipality Bimal Bahadur Shakya said the cooperation of everyone is needed to resolve the problems of the industries. President of the Rupandehi Trade Association Moti Raj Gyawali stressed the need to develop a new approach for promotion of industry and trade in the country. At the function chaired by president of Rupandehi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mahendra Narayan Shrestha, former president Pradhumnalal Shrestha, general secretary Ajaya Man Shrestha, vice-presidents Parmananda Kharel and Bupal Shrestha and treasurer Devendra Dwaju threw light on the activities of the chamber. Nepal calls for campaign against exploitation Butwal, Sept.15 (RSS): Main Opposition Party leader and CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal inaugurated the national gathering of the workers of Nepal Utpidit Jatiya Mukti Samaj (Downtroddens Society) here today. The objective of the gathering is to train the society workers to properly implement the programme recently announced by the government for uplifting the socio-economic status of the downtrodden (Dalits). Some 250 lead workers are participating in the three-day gathering. In his inaugural speech, CPN-UML general secretary Nepal stressed the need to launch a campaign against feudal culture so as to do away with social malpractice like untouchability. Stressing the need for Dalits to first overcome the inferiority complex they are suffering from and work for bringing about greater cultural awareness, he said it is equally important for them to unite and organise against injustice, excesses and suppression. One should not put too much effort into patching up a crumbled house, he said, asking one and all to bring a change in status quoist attitude and move ahead in unison for building welfare society. Mr Nepal also underlined the need to focus on peoples basic problems, protection of national identity and consolidation of democracy during the government-Maoist talks. He further said that no one can win the trust of people at gun point. National Assembly vice-chairman Ramprit Paswan called for the commitment of all communities for the protection of democracy. CPN-UML standing committee member Bharat Mohan Adhikari spoke of the need to punish those helping social malpractice like untouchability continue. CPN-UML central members Shanta Manavi and Bishnu Poudel, central general secretary of the society Jitu Gautam and member Joglal Bishwokarma also expressed their views. Workshop on cancer treatment held Bhaktapur, Sept. 15 (RSS): On the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the founding of the Nepal Cancer Relief Society (NCRS), Bhatakpur district NCRS unit and Bhaktapur Cancer Services Centre (Cancer Hospital) organised a one-day workshop for women drug entrepreneurs of Bagmati zone. Inaugurating the workshop, NCRS president Diwakar Rajkarnikar expressed confidence that the workshop would contribute to providing the women necessary treatment for cancer at a time when a large number of women loose their lives because of cancer due to poverty and illiteracy. Cancer expert Dr. Rajendra Prasad Baral said that patients suffering from cancer could be saved if treatment was carried out on time. Chief of Bhaktapur Cancer Service Centre Dr. Arati Shah threw light on the services being provided by the hospital to people suffering from cancer. At the function chaired by NCRS Bhaktapur district president Dhana Man Shrestha, vice-president Ananta Prasad Dhaubadel, member Sridhar Rathore, Dr. David Herman and Nepal Drug Entrepreneurs Association Kathmandu district president Prakash Man Pradhan also expressed their views. At the second session of the workshop, gynaecologist Dr. Indra Prasad Prajapati provided information on cancer of the ovary suffered by women. Peace rallies organised throughout the Kingdom Kathmandu, Sept. 15 (RSS): Peace rallies were organised at various places of the Kingdom at the call of the Peace Campaign Peoples Solidarity Committee with an objective of long-term peace through mutual goodwill in the country so as to make the talks between the government and the CPN-Maoists a success. Janakpur: A rally which began here from the Janakpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry went through the town carrying placards with slogans Peace the wishes of the Nepalese, Lets build a fearless society and Peace for ever. The rally participated in by party representatives, businessmen and journalists and social workers ended at the chamber office. Charikot: A grand peace rally organised by the Dolakha Chamber of Commerce and Industry went through the town which was participated in by party representatives, intellectuals, employees, journalists, businessmen, social workers, teachers, students and representatives of NGOs. Bhaktapur: The rally initiated by the president of the Bhaktapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Krishna Prasad Tamrakar by flying pigeons, the symbols of peace was participated in by businessmen, journalists, lawyers, representatives of political parties, teachers and students. The rally ended at Durbar Square after going through the Balakhu Ganesh, Mahalaxmi, Dattatreya, Golmadhi, Sukuldhoka, Taumadi, Bansha Gopal, Bharwacho and Itachhe. Dhading: A rally was organised in Dhadingbesi by the Dhading Chamber of Commerce and Industry participated in by people of various walks of life. Kamalamai: A rally which was organised by the Sindhuli Chamber of Commerce and Industry began from the open air theater and ended at the same place after going through the town. Birgunj: A grand rally participated in by people of various walks of life participated in the rally organised by the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Damak: A peace rally organised by the Damak Chamber of Commerce and Industry went through the town with a message for the civil society to be active against violence and murder. Tulsipur: A rally organised by the Tulsipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry was participated in by people of various walks of life in which Tulsipur Mayor Dhundi Raj Lamichhane, Chamber President Chiranjivi Rijal, Bramhakumari Gita, vice president of FNJ Bipul Pokharel wished for the success of the talks. Chitwan: A peace rally organised by the Narayangadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry went through the Bharatpur Municipality after starting from the Campachaur which was participated in by people of various walks of life. Gaur: A peace rally went through the town here participated in by general public and representatives of various organisations. Panauti, Sept.15 (RSS): Deputy Speaker Chitralekha Yadav has said that it is better to be a good man and serve the society rather than becoming a big man. She was felicitating Ashta Mangal Bajracharya and giving away commendation letters to the volunteers at a programme organised at Panauti by Service Civil International Nepal on the occasion of the International Volunteers Day today. No one is small or big in society as such a notion is created by "Bankrupt mind" to differentiate from big to small, she said adding that the need of the day is to serve the nation with the spirit of equality, and a feeling that the village, municipalities, societies and the nation belong to us. Expecting everything from the government would set back villages and societies, she said. Panauti Mayor Saptakaji Buddhacharya said that social and voluntary organisations should function with a sense of service. President of Kabhre district committee of the Nepali Congress Madhu Acharya and a host of other speakers expressed their views at the function chaired by central president of the institution Suresh Sainju. Genetic resource policy needed Biratnagar, Sept.15 (RSS): Minister for Forests and Soil Conservation Gopal Man Shrestha has said that as the country lacks a legal apparatus concerning access to genetic resources and sharing of the benefits derived from their utilisation, a relevant parliamentary bill is about to be introduced. Minister Shrestha was inaugurating a programme on genetic resources and sharing their benefits organised under the joint auspices of the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation and International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Nepal Chapter for the officer level employees of His Majestys Government based in the Eastern Region at Biratnagar. He said that as clear policy in this regard is lacking, efforts are on to formulate a policy concerning access to the genetic resources and sharing of the advantages of their utilisation. Convenor of the IUCN Surendra Bhandari and task force member Dr. Madhusudan Upadhyaya also expressed their views at the programme chaired by officiating secretary at the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation Dr. Udaya Raj Sharma. Participating in the three day programme are 35 officers of various offices of all the 16 districts of the Eastern Region. |
