Jhanmu custom office stops imported goods

Chautara, Sept 18 (RSS): Goods worth millions of rupees imported by the Nepalese businessmen have been stopped by the officials of the Jhanmu custom office of the Tibet Autonomous Region on the ground of internal reasons, leading a total halt in import of good from and export of goods to the region.

It may be recalled that His Majesty’s Government had decided to conduct business transactions with the Tibet Autonomous Region through the banking system in the fiscal year 2057/58 B.S.

Under the new arrangement, transactions up to the value of US $. 3,000 can be carried out by filling up a form while transaction above this ceiling have to be carried out by opening a letter of credit at the bank.

Jhanmu custom office has taken under control the goods imported by the Nepalese businessmen under the provision of US $ 3,000 for investigations as the Tibetan businessmen have not shown the accounts of foreign exchange involved in the import the goods, Tatopani customs office said, quoting the Tibetan custom officials.

According to the Nepalese businessmen, about 300 container trucks of goods have been stopped by the Jhanmu custom office of Khasa.

A loss of revenue amounting to millions of rupees has been incurred following the stoppage of the inflow of goods from Tibet Autonomous Region, according to Tatopani custom office.

The custom office has suffered a loss of revenue amounting to Rs. 100 million owing to massive landslides taking place on the 26 km portion of Arniko Highway, the only transit route for the businessmen of Nepal and Tiben Autonomous Region.

The custom office realised revenues amounting to Rs. 30 million in the month of mid-July/mid August against Rs. 130 million realised in the month of mid-August/mid-September.

As the efforts are being made to clear the debris of landslides along the Arniko Highway through concerted efforts of the local administration, the local people and the businessmen, the Arniko Highway is expected to be opened within the next few days, Phulping VDC chairman Dhruba Poudel said.

Since the Baba Dashain, great festival of all the Nepalese is just around the corner, the stoppage of goods from Tibet autonomous region has caused an adverse impact on the general people.
