What Violence Does

Having lived through the past few years in Nepal, we seem to have been used to facing the consequences brought on us by terrorism prevailing in our nation. It probably would no longer be a matter of surprise to see the dejected acceptance of a death in a family caused by the terrorist attack. This all may sound like the defeated mentality. But the question I feel probing at the back of the mind is "Just how much ready are we to accept the consequence that is likely to crop up tomorrow as a result of today’s violence? " To be very blunt, I am trying to point a finger at the miserable way the schools are running these days. What can we expect of the children’s future when they spend their school time at home? What are we to expect of our nation when some citizens are just too apt on keeping the doors of knowledge closed? Parents’ reluctance to send their kids to school, fearing the violence that may await their kids on the way and at the school itself, has become a common phenomenon. Schools may muster enough courage to remain open but will the parents have enough courage to send the kids? What do the insurgents expect of the peace loving citizens like us? To raise a new batch of illiterate and violent citizens? It is like the Stone Age when civilization would have had no meaning? I am proud of the peaceful citizens of Nepal but I fear we are being pushed into the tunnel of terror. My heart cries out for the seemingly worthless torrent of blood that our brave ancestors shed for us to build our nation, thus our identity. And I question myself and all the other true citizens of Nepal, "Was that all for nothing?"
