Pashmina export declines by 70 %

Kathmandu, Sept 27: Carpet exporters and manufacturers have shown a deep concern over the deteriorating export of carpet. At a meeting held at Nepal Chamber of Commerce, they urged the NCC to take initiatives to boost export of carpet, according to a press release issued by Nepal Chamber of Commerce. Chairman of Carpet Export Association Kabindra Thakur said that the continuous decline in the export of carpet – which is one of the major export items of Nepal, would have a great impact in the national economy.

He also informed about the visit of German journalists who will be here to acquire information about the Nepalese carpet.

Meanwhile Ram Bahadur Gurung chairman of the Pashmina Industry Association called on Rajesh Kazi Shrestha, the NCC chairman and discussed the problems related with the export of Pashmina. Gurung urged the NCC to be aware about the situation.

According to Gurung the export of Pashmina has declined by 70 per cent in comparison to the last year. Similarly the export of volume of carpet this year declined by almost 65 per cent.

NCC chairman Shrestha while talking to the delegations said that the manufacturers have to careful about the quality of their products. Exporting or manufacturing should not be the ultimate aim of manufacturers; they have to be equally conscious about after sales service and the market trend.
