Popular Movement Day
For peace and democracy, killings should be over: Speaker

Kathmandu, Apr. 8 (RSS): On the occasion of the13th popular movement and democracy day, Speaker Taranath Ranabhat paid heartfelt tribute to all known and unknown martyrs who have struggled and died for the restoration of democracy since 2017 B.S.

At the outset of the meeting of the House of Representatives today, Speaker Ranabhat said "Now, I remember the late leaders Bisheswar Prasad Koirala and Puspa Lal Shrestha, an inspiration for a movement, and pay heartfelt tributes to the commander of the popular movement, late Ganesh Man Singh."

"We have been able to usher in democracy through the unprecedented understanding between the monarchy and the people, and we have reached this point after twelve years of democratic practice," he said "The message of today is to end the brutal killings and terrorism in the country."

The Speaker wished that everyone would adhere to the spirit of all party workers involved in the popular movement on this particular day.

Rajendra Prasad Pandey of the CPN-UML paid heartfelt tribute to all those who had fought and died for restoring democracy.

"As peace and happiness for which we struggled have not been attained yet, everyone should vow to usher in peace in the country on this particular day", he said.

Demanding the Constitution amendment in the on-going session as pledged by the Prime Minister, Pandey urged the government to bring bills concerning abuse of authority, corruption control, impeachment and special court today.

Chief whip of Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party Tek Bahadur Chokhal paid tribute to all known and unknown martyrs who laid down their lives during the popular movement for the restoration of democracy on behalf of NC Parliamentary Party.

The 13th popular movement day has called on all the forces involved in the people's movement of 2046 B.S. to join hands to defeat the Maoist terrorists who were undermining the contributions made by martyrs.

Chokhal wanted the 13th popular movement day to inspire all to lead the country to peace and safeguard the constitutional monarchy and democracy.

The Secretary at the House of Representatives presented the Terrorists and Destructive Activities (prevention and punishment) Bill-2058 forwarded with amendment and Finance (first amendment) Bill-2058 returned without suggestions by the National Assembly at its meeting today.
