A growing number of people, especially the youth, seem to have fallen prey to alcoholism and drug abuse. Come every evening, young people are found to be moving about intoxicated. Some are apparently addicted to alcohol while others are habituated into taking narcotic drugs. This is not only waste of money which can otherwise be spent on other necessary things, but also deterioration of health, to improve which again calls for more money. What would of the nation that is still numbered as one of the poorest when the people of the most productive age engage in such unproductive activities? This is chiefly because of lack of employment opportunities. If the country can utilise their skills, both mental as well as physical, in some economic activities, then the dream of development will not be difficult to materialise. Therefore, all the concerned, including the public and private sectors, should give serious thought towards this issue. Samir Sahi |
