Sanskriti boutique opens

Kathmandu, Apr. 18: A new boutique—Sanskriti—was opened yesterday.

Sanskriti the proprietor is a boutique with a difference. It offers all the merchandises, especially for women in the present fashion scenerio.

Dr. Arzu Deuba, wife of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Mrs. Asha Singh, wife of Indian Ambassador to Nepal I. P. Singh, Mrs. Candy Karcher, wife of Henning Karcher, Resident Representative of UNDP, Mrs. Anamika Bharati, wife of Manoj Bharati, First Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, and famous models and designers were present at the function.

The guests were welcomed by Mrs. Neelam Singh, Managing Trustee of Nepal Development Trust, and her colleagues Mrs. Laxmi Neupane, Ms. Pragati Khanal and Mrs. Sarita S. Dhakras.


Himalayan Yeti marks New Year 2059

Kathmandu, Apr. 18: The Himalayan Yeti, an association of Nepalese living in the United Kingdom, observed the New Year 2059 in the city of Manchester, according to a press release issued by the Association.

On the occasion, Minister of State for Women, Children and Social Welfare Sushila Swanr, officials at the Royal Nepalese Embassy in London and a large number of Nepalese as well as British nationals were present.

Minister of State Swanr said that she was very happy to celebrate the New Year with Nepalese in UK. She said that the terrorist activities have affected Nepal’s economy and tourism.

She commended Himayan Yeti for promoting Nepalese culture, tourism and handicraft in Britain by organising "Nepal Himalayan Festival".

President of Himalayan Yeti Pushpa Shrestha said the Nepalese living in Britain are always concerned about Nepal and Nepalese. "We are working for the welfare of the country and people," he said.


Package programme launched

Taplejung, Apr. 18: The Taplejung district agricultural development office has launched package programme in 15 Village Development Committees (VDCs) for the development of agriculture sector.

Under the programme, farmers are encouraged to plant cash crops, vegetables and fruits.

The programme covers basic infrastructure such as road, electricity, irrigation and communication facilities.

A total of 34,000 hectares of land in Ikhabu, Hangpang, Saghu, Phakumda, Nalbu, Tellok, Surungkhim and Khebang villages are selected for cardamom farming. Vegetable farming will be started in three VDCs. For orange farming, Phungling, Dokhu, Change and Sinam have been chosen. Potato farming areas include 200 hectares of Phungling and Dokhu villages.

The production of vegetables and fruits has increased significantly in areas following the start of the programme. Many farmers have started vegetable and fruit farming.


34 suspect terrorists taken into custody

Bharatpur, Apr. 18: The Chitwan District Administration Office has taken 34 suspects in custody for their involvement in terrorist activities in the last three days. The number of such persons taken into custody has reached 57.

Three months ago, 29 of them were arrested for taking part in terrorist activities, but were released after a few days. The security forces have arrested them again for investigation as they were involved in terrorist activities.

According to the District Administration Office, those in custody include Bal Krishna Dhakal, Bhim Bahadur Thapa Magar, Yagya Prasad Ghimire, Dhawa Tamang, Arjunand Adhikari, Narayan Bahadur Subedi, Gauri Shankar Ragmi and Bishnu Prasad Bhandari.

Others taken into custody are Bishnu Prasad Chaulagain, Rabi Kiran Nirjib, Netra Prasad Poudel, Srikrishna Ghimire, Eka Raj Dallakoti, Thakur Prasad Kandel, Jiwan Darai, Tirtha Raj Ghimire, Nanda Lal Poudel, Rama Ghimire, Nirmal Kumar Sharma, Dr. Rabi Mohan Sapkota, Dr. Bhim Raj Adhikari and Bishnu Sapkota. Purna Prasad Dawadi, Bishnu Hari Adhikari, Dharma Raj Acharya, Indra Prasad Bohara, Ganga Prasad Lamichhane, Labanya Kumar Sharma, Narayan Shrestha, Shankar Poudel, Harishchandra Subedi and Balram Aryal.
