Gorkhapatra to organise inter-media soccer By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, April 25: Five Kathmandu based braodsheet dailies and two electronic media will participate in a football tournament to be organised to mark the 102nd anniversary of the establishment of the Gorkhapatra. To be played on the knockout basis, the three-day tournament- Inter-Media Soccer Tournament-2059- will kick off on 1st May at the All Nepal Football Complex at Satdobato, Lalitpur. Radio Nepal, Nepal Television, Nepal Samacharpatra, Himalaya Times, Space Time , Rajdhani and Gorkhapatra dailies will take part in the tournament. According to the organisers, the Gorkhapatra Corporation Employees Association-2052, a five member organising committee has been formed to run the tournament successfully. The association has also expressed its gratitude to the dailies for their participation in the tournament. By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, April 25: The street children of the capital will participate in a football tournament that aims at promoting peace and child human rights. Planete Enfants World Peace Cup to be held on 4th of May is expected to create an enjoyable and peaceful soccer events for the street urchins and their respective organisations. To be organised jointly by the French non-government organisation, Planete Enfants, and SAATHI, a Nepali NGO at Jawalakhel of Lalitpur, the tournament will be participated by the children belonging to six NGOs of Kathmandu and Panauti. Children from the CWIN, the Concern Nepal Voice of Children, the Panauti Childrens Home, Save the Children UK, the Sath Sath and the Planete Enfants and SAATHI, the organisers of the tournament said. The tournament will be organised in coming years and a running trophy and a runners-up cup are on offer. Apart from these, the official Adidas World Cup 2002 signed by the French Football team with the signature of the best football players of the world such as Zinedine Zidane, Barthez, Petit Trezeguet will also be presented to the winning side. The winning team will also be invited to watch the first game of the World Cup on big screen of a Kathmandu restaurant. SAATHI will offer a special Fair Play Peace Cup to the best fair team. The tournament is being organised with the support of UNICEF, ILO, Save The Children UK and the French Embassy in Nepal. According to the organisers, the qualification games will start at 8:00 am on 4th May while semi-finals will be held at 1:00 p.m. and final will take place at 4:00 p.m. |
