New industrial policy sought

HETAUDA, Aug.20: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Purna Bahadur Khadka has said that the country is in need of the industrialists and businessmen in making the country industrially self-reliant through enforcement of the new 20-year industrial policy.

Minister Khadka was inaugurating the central development regional policy formulation workshop organised under the joint auspices of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Kathmandu and Makwanpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today.
Stating that the FNCCI should play the leading role in permanently resolving the problems of the industrialists and businessmen. Khadka made it clear that His Majesty's Government would put into practice the recommendations of the FNCCI.

Vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr. Narayan Sstressed the need for the new industrial policy to help in economic prosperity of the nation as well as promote nationalism.
FNCCI central member Kush Bahadur Joshi, vice-president Chandi Raj Dhakal and ex-president Mahesh Lal Pradhan also expressed their views at the programme chaired by president of Makwanpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Madhav Prasad Risal.

Some 80 persons including the chairperson, secretaries and representatives of 15 of the 22 chambers of commerce and industry in the central development region took part in the daylong workshop.
Meanwhile, Rupandehi Industry Association and the Auto Engineering Association Butwal have distributed Rs l00,000 worth of relief material to families rendered homeless or otherwise affected by flooding and landslides in Lothar, Korak, Shaktikhor, Kaulel and Siddi VDCs in Chitwan district.
The number of people rendered homeless by flooding and landslides is 33 in Lothar VDC, 65 in Korak, six in Shaktikhor, l3 in Kauli and l4 in Siddi VDC.

Flooding and landslides have left 32 people dead in the district while 300 bigaha of land has also been affected and 635 families are in need of rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, Shakti Secondary School, Mahendra Jyoti Secondary and Juresh Circle in Gorkha have collected Rs l2,300 in cash and Rs 20,000 worth of clothing and kitchenware under the convernorship of the Red Cross sub-branch in Gorkha Bazar in aid of flood and landslide victims.
