Qatar Airways increases flights

KATHMANDU, Aug. 29: Qatar Airways has increased the frequency of its flights to 12 destinations to meet the rush of passengers this season. Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer, Akbar Al Baker said: "The recent addition of two state of the art Airbus A330-200 aircraft has helped us to increase the frequencies as well as to begin operations to new destinations."

With the raising of the frequencies, Qatar Airways now operates 11 flights a week to London's Heathrow Airport from the earlier nine.

To cater to the growing number of European tourists visiting the Maldives, the airline has raised the number of flights to Male to 7 from 3. Flights to the Middle East and Arab countrydestinations have also been increased. Qatar Airways now operates seven flights a week to Saudi Arabia with the raising of the Jeddah frequency to 5 from the earlier 3.

The other Saudi destination is Riyadh to which the airline flies twice a week, according to a press release issued by Qatar Airways.

The other destinations to which the frequencies have been raised are (earlier frequency in brackets) Amman 6 (5), Damascus 4 (3), Khartoum 4 (2), Bangkok 7 (2), Manila 5 (2), Kuala Lumpur 6 (3), two of which are via Bangkok, Kathmandu 11 (7), Karachi 7 (5), Jakarta 4 (3).

'FNCCI willing to work with donor agencies'

KATHMANDU, Aug. 29: senior economist of The World Bank's South Asia Department Ahmad Ahsan and director of the International Centre of Economics Ross Chapman met with acting president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Binod Bahadur Shrestha and second vice president and spokesman Rajendra Kumar Khetan, here yesterday.

On the occasion, acting president Shrestha said FNCCI is willing to work together with the donor agencies to revive the economy as well as industries of the country from the present state of economic recession.

Spokesman Rajendra Kumar Khetan said if the areas of comparative benefit are identified, it will benefit both the government and the private sector.

HAN, Thai-Nepal Chamber of Commerce sign MoU

KATHMANDU: The Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) and the Thai-Nepal Chamber of Commerce signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of tourism at a function held in Bangkok on Monday.

HAN president Narendra Bajracharya and president of the Thai-Nepal Chamber of Commerce Krishna Sivakriskal signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.Under the MoU, both the parties will exchange information relating to the development and trends in the field of hotel and hospitality, and other areas of tourism.
