Peace For Progress

HIS Majesty King Gyandendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev aptly remarked that peace is inevitable for the progress and prosperity of the entire humanity, for which Royal Nepalese Army has played the most crucial role in maintaining peace within the country and abroad. Addressing the third batch of the Shree Barda Bahadur Battalion Peace Keeping Force, that is soon leaving for Sierra Leone at the call of the United Nations for peace - keeping mission, at Birendra Peace Operation Training Centre in Panchkhal the other day, His Majesty the King said that the dedication, hard-work and an exemplary sense of duty of Royal Nepalese Army personnel have enhanced the prestige of Nepal in the international level resulting in more demands of Nepalese soldiers in the UN peace - keeping operation in different parts of the world. The Royal Nepalese Army personnel have earned the fame of most dependable and competent peacekeepers in the international arena by showing their exemplary performance in different trouble spots of the world. Its complete adherence to UN Charter and commitment to world peace always guides Nepal's foreign policy. It is in line with this commitment of Nepal that the Royal Nepalese Army has been playing its role in the peacekeeping operation in the world at the call of the United Nations.

The Royal Nepalese Army has been instrumental in defending Nepal and people from any kind of internal and external threat as well as maintaining peace and stability in country throughout the history. Peace is prerequisite for progress of any sector of the country. Without peace, no society and the country can make any progress in any front. Nepal has now been facing a serious problem of violence and terrorism. The violence and terrorist activities being perpetrated by the so-called Maoists have severely affected social and economic fabric of the country as well as created an atmosphere of terror among the people. At this crucial juncture, the Royal Nepalese Army personnel have twin responsibilities on their shoulders. The Royal Nepalese Army is making its best efforts to maintain law and order and provide the sense of security by destroying the network of terrorism in the country. At the same time, it has to fulfil Nepal's responsibility in the international level by participating and accomplishing peacekeeping mission in different trouble spots of the world at the call of the United Nations. As the role and responsibilities of the Royal Nepalese Army have been increasing both at home and abroad, it needs to be well-equipped and further modernised so that it could easily deal with any kind of terrorism and conflict.
