Construction entrepreneurs call on Prime Minister

KATHMANDU: A delegation of representatives of the Federation of Nepalese Construction Entrepreneurs led by federation president Sukanta Lal Hirachan on meeting Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand at the latter's quarters at Baluwatar informed about different problems faced by the entrepreneurs at present.

On the occasion the delegates requested Prime Minister for early release of the amounts which have been blocked even after the completion of construction works mainly on different road and irrigation projects.

The delegation demanded that permission should be given for the 'design and build' system, i.e, design and construction both of the project to be done by entrepreneurs themselves, which is said to be under successful implementation in other countries.

The delegation also appealed to the Prime Minister to constitute a working group including representatives from the federation for the early amendment of financial regulations. Users' committees are not to be constituted for the projects which cost more than Rs 500,000 and are sans people's volunteer labour, construction bid regulations should be amended, foreign participation should be called only for projects worth more than Rs 150 millions and of special nature, insurance in construction works should be introduced, obligatory joint venture should be managed between foreign and Nepalese construction entrepreneurs etc were the other demands put forward by the delegates on the occasion.
