Dahit opens Tharu students' conference KATHMANDU, Dec. 14: Assistant Minister for Population and Environment Gopal Dahit inaugurated the Kathmandu Valley conference of Tharu Students' society here today. On the occasion, Minister Dahit said the development of the country is not possible without socialisation of education and that the present government is serious of how could all the Nepali people avail education services. Co-ordinator of the conference Satya Narayan Chaudhary presided. Khapangi honours senior Thanka artist KATHMANDU, Dec. 14: Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Gore Bahadur Khapangi felicitated senior Thanka Artist Nima Ghyamchho at a function organised here today. On the occasion, Minister Khapangi also released a book "Nima Ko Jibani" (life history of Nima) published by Tama Dojang. Minister Khapangi also released various creations by different litterate on the occasion. Speaking at the function, Minister Khapangi said Nepal is a muli-lingual country with 13 different castes and that racial, religious and cultural diversity is the specialty of Nepal. Journalists given away certificates LALITPUR, Dec. 14: Rajparishad Standing Committee Chairman Dr. Keshur Jung Rayamajhi has pointed out the need for the journalism in the country to be effective at a time when the information technology was making the world small. Chairman Dr. Rayamajhi was speaking at the valedictory function of a three-month training programme on journalism and announcement organised by Creative Communications and Research Centre and National Press Club Nepal. He expressed the view that the communications sector should
move ahead by exercising the constitutional rights for the elimination of the prevailing
incidents murder and violence in the country. Kathmandu district branch of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) Hari Lamsal said that development of print and electronic mass media was taking place in the country after the restoration of democracy. President of National Press Club Nepal Ramkrishna Karmacharya presided over the programme. Development of Far West stressed RSS KATHMANDU, Dec. 14: Former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has stressed the need to pay special attention in the development of irrigation, road and electricity with people's participation for the sustainable development of Far Western Development Region. Inaugurating a two day conference on development prospects and challenges in the Far Western Development Region organised by Prashansha Samuha here today he said government and national and non governmental organisations should be involved in the development of education, health and development of other sectors in the Far Western Development Region. Control of counterfeit currency discussed RSS KATHMANDU, Dec. 14: A workshop seminar on identification of Indian currency notes and control of fake currency organised by the Nepal Rastra Bank Banking Office with the co-operation of Reserve Bank of India concluded here recently. Senior officials including regional director for Bihar and Jharkhand of the Reserve Bank of India M. Jha, assistant manager Anupam Kishor, deputy general manager of Reserve Bank of India Calcutta P. Barla, manager S.K. Devaka and general manager of Reserve Bank Currency Management Department P.K. Gayakwad were the resource persons of the workshop. A total of 44 staffs of Nepal Rastra Bank and Rastriya
Banijya Bank and representatives from Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of
Authority, Department of Revenue Investigation, police office and chamber of commerce and
industry participated the workshop seminar which was inaugurated by executive director of
Nepal Rastra Bank, Banking Office Ram Bhakta Thapa. A votary of Music A votary of music and musicology Ganesh Prasad Shrestha does not allow his enthusiasm and devotion dilute despite his age and difficulties. He invites and encourages people to learn, devote and popularize music and enrich musical traditions. His home is like a school of music where people come and learn music and acquire skills as to how to play musical instruments. Ganesh Prasad Shrestha enjoys sharing his knowledge and skills with people who seek his guidance to learn music and practice the art of music. People of all ages cherishing interest in music come to him and benefit from his expertise. Born in Yatkha Kathmandu in 1991 B.S. Ganesh Prasad Shrestha entered the field of music in 2004B.S as he gave music to drama titled Satal Singh. Since then he was invited to all local fair and festivals to render music. He was called to volunteer music in Gaijatra and Indra Jatra. Shrestha took part in Bhajans and Dabalis and played harmoniums and tabla which helped to increase his recognition in the field. Shrestha got associated with Radio Nepal as volunteer in several programmes of popular interest. Moreover he also served Royal Nepal academy and the Rastriya Naach Ghar from time to time and devoted his skills and energy to enrich their programmes.He was among the founders of the Nepal Adarsha Kala Mandal -a forum that is dedicated to serving to the growth and development of the art of music. Shrestha received education in the art of music from Prayag Sangit Samiti, Allahabad. But his continuous and unrelenting pursuit of music and art earned for him honour and recognition. The climax of his career in music was his participation as music director for the first Newari film Shilu. Furthermore, he also performed as music director for several video films . Nepal's great artistes like Narayan Gopal, Bhakta Raj Acharya, Gyanu Rana. Meera Rana and others sang hit songs in the music direction given by Mr Shrestha. For his contribution and dedication in the field of music and art Shrestha has been awarded with honours and decorations. Sharing his views on the current state of music and art he says "Music needs to be developed and adapted according to the taste of age and demands of the generation. However, Classical music music is the foundation of all musical variations." He advises the new generation to understand the value and importance of the classical music(Shastriya sangeet) and remain faithful to it. One can play with all variations and tastes of music if one is fully dedicated to Shastriya Sangeet. Classical Music is immortal and it never dies, he adds. Ganesh Prasad Shrestha composed shokanjali (Dirge) and sang it when His late Majesty King Birendra passed away one and half years ago. He had also written shokanjali at the demise of the genius litterateurs like Bal Krishna Shama, Shardul Shumshere and so on. Referring to the prevailing situation in the country. Mr Shrestha says " the time is not very favourable these days. The talented people are sidelined while those having connection are given importance and recognition." Association president Shankar Lal Agrawal presided over the programme. 15 killed in bus accident BHADRAPUR, Dec. 14: Fifteen Nepalese passengers died when a Manipur Assam (India) bound bus with registration number MN 01-1304 from Kakarbhita met with an accident at Jalpaigudi Friday afternoon, it is learnt from the Ilaka police office, Kakarbhitta. Eleven of them died on the spot while four succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the Jalpaigudi Hospital. The accident occurred when the bus went out of control and
