Cultivation of turmeric popular in Parbat

PARBAT: The cultivation of turmeric in orange garden has become popular in Parbat district.
This farming system is very beneficial as we don't need any separate land for its cultivation and on the other hand the wetness of the soil is maintained by the shadows of orange trees, causing no need for irrigation, farmer Dili Raj Paudel said. The cultivation also does not need separate ploughing and digging of the land once planted and we don't have to worry for extra fertilization and weeding, he added.

The market price also is good and can be sold in the nearby market, he said. The turmeric cultivation is done in about five hectares of land in the district at present which produces some 35 metric tons of turmeric powder annually, says district agriculture development officer Chandra Kant Khanal.
