‘Seize assets of corrupt, smugglers’

Kalaiya, Feb. 8 (RSS): General secretary of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party Pashupati Shumsher J.B. Rana gave away national membership certificates to 218 party activists of the RPP Bara district committee.

On the occasion, general secretary Rana said that as long as the assets amassed by smugglers and the corrupt neo-rich of the villages and municipalities were not seized, there would be no improvement in the economy of the country.

Mohan Yadav and Bharat Bahadur Malla also expressed their views at the programme chaired RPP Bara Distrit Committee president Prayag Raya Yadav.


32% electricity pilferage in Siraha

Siraha, Feb. 8 (RSS): About 32 per cent electricity pilferage is taking place in Siraha district because of the people directly hooking up with the electricity lines.

According to the employees of Nepal Electricity Authority(NEA) Siraha District Office, maximum pilferage of electricity has been found taking place UN 10 village development committees including Bishupur and Arnama during an on- the-spot inspection to check leakage of electricity in the district.

However, the local people have a startling story to tell.

"Some of the employees of NEA Bishupur Sub-Stattion have hooked up the electricity line with the main electricity line in return of a bribe of Rs. 200 to Rs. 400 per house," they allege.

NEA Siraha District Office has, so far, realised Rs. 95,657 in fines from the 29 people found in directly hooking up with the main electricity lines.

Sri Ram Pokharel, chief of the NEA branch office, admitted the fact that some his own employees were involved in the pilferage of electricity. The office has been carrying out regular patrollling and monitoring to clamp down on such malpractices, he added.

Currently, the office has been supplying electricity to Siraha Municipality and 17 other VDCs of the district.

The NEA district office had realised Rs. 12,951,800 from the sale of 2,992,292 units of electricity in FY 2057/58.

Siraha Municipality is contemplating to charge Rs. 2 per house and Rs. 50 per industry within the Municipality for the street lights in response to a call made by NEA to clear the arrears of street lights.


Timely health services on govt’s priority

Biratnagar, Feb. 8 (RSS): Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives Mahesh Acharya inaugurated the newly constructed sub-health post building constructed at the premises of the VDC building at Motipur VDC-6 in Morang district, today.

The building constructed at a cost of Rs.400,000 has four rooms and sits on one kattha of land donated by social worker Mrs. Ghurani Devi, a resident of Motipur VDC- 6.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Acharya said the Nepali Congress government has prioritised providing health services in time at the doorsteps of the people.

At the function presided over by Motipur VDC chairman Shiva Narayan Majhi, various other speakers including central vice chairman of the Cooperatives Board Biswobandhu Gautam, Motipur VDC Vice Chairman Prem Lal Majhi, Central Councilor of the Nepal Tarun Dal Satya Narayan Bhagat, DDC Morang member Naminarayan Chaudhari, NC Morang District member Mrs. Kabita Sardar, Nepal Farmers Association Morang President Anirudra Khanal, and Sunlal Majhi called on the government and the general public to be serious about resolution of various problems face by the country. .


‘Faith in religion teaches man morality’

Itahari, Feb. 8 (RSS): Minister of State for Information and Communications Hari Narayan Chaudhary has said when man forgets his responsibility to society and loses morality, he finds himself engaged in dishonest and destructive activities and seeks to destroy the social fabric.

Mr Chaudhary made these remarks at a function organized after laying the foundation stones for the Ma Kali Mandir and Shiv Mandir at Dulari VDC Ward No. 1 here today.

Stating that faith in religion teaches man morality and encourages him to engage in social services, he noted that since proponents of non-violence like Buddha were born on this land, we have enough reasons to feel proud of our land.

Various other speakers, including Ishwor Dahal, also spoke at the function chaired by Dulari VDC Chairman Arjunraj Adhikari.

Minister of State Chaudhary also honored Manilal Chaudhary who donated land to the Shiv Temple.


‘Discrimination based on caste, creed should be avoided’

Kathmandu, Feb. 8:

One should not dominate others on the basis of caste or creed or discriminate against people because everyone of us is a Nepali This view was share, here today by different speakers at a press conference.

The speakers also said that people of authority such as teachers, doctors, judges and the like should be careful in ensuring that people are not discriminated on grounds of traditional biases.

Advocate Yubraj Shangraula said that the rights of those suffering from discrimination in society would be restored if the people of the traditionally higher social hierarchy begin to change their attitudes. "This change could be brought through education," he said.

He claimed that the "untouchables" themselves are not confident that they can enjoy equal rights in society.

Raj Narayan Nepal, representative of INSEC, said that the revolution for the rights of the down-trodden however, would not end the prevailing situation overnight but it would help to build an atmosphere where socially backward people can come to the mainstream.

Padam Lal Bishowkarma, chairman of the Organisation of the Opressed and Discriminated People, said that to discrimination based on caste. everyone should start work in his or her own home.

Likewise, Kapil Shrestha, member of the National Human Rights Commission, said that those institutions that have been working for the rights of the discriminated people should make recommendations to the government so that it can launch sustainable programmes to that end.

Shova Gautam, President of the Institute of Human Rights Communication, Nepal, questioned why is it that discrimination is practiced in matters of eating and drinking but not in sex?


Technical education must for self-reliance

Bhaktapur, Feb. 8 (RSS): Minister for Education and Sports Amod Prasad Upadhyaya declared open the 20th managerial seminar organized by the the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) here today.

Addressing the three-day seminar, Minister Upadhyaya said that the students should be provided technical education in order to make them self-reliant.

Mr Upadhyaya expressed confidence that the education seventh Amendment Act-2058 which has received Royal Assent will help to make the schools more efficient and enhance the quality of education in the country.

CTEVT vice chairman Saroj Devkota said that His Majesty’s Government has entrusted the CTEVT the responsibility of solving the problem of unemployement through technical and vocational education as the general education had not helped to move the country ahead.

Education expert Dr. Lekhnath Belbase expressed the view that success had not been achieved in attaining the objectives because of the weakness of the management in developing the education sector.

On the occasion Minister for Education and Sport Upadhaya also released the souvenir published by the CTEVT council employees association as well as initiated the blood donation programme.

The function was chaired by president of the CTEVT Employees Association Kamal Pandit.


Engage in social service: Neupane

Bhaktapur, Feb. 8 (RSS): President of the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party and MP Narayan Man Bijukchhe, inaugurating the Hanumanghat Social Service Committee here today, spoke of the need for the people to take initiatives for the preservation and development of pilgrimages of historic and religious importance.

MP Lekhnath Neupane said we should engage in social services with feeling that service is religion.

Various other speakers including Bhaktapur DDC Vice Chairman Ramesh Shreshta also spoke at the function.

Committee chairman Kanchhabhakta Pradhananga who had chaired the function donated Rs.10,000 for the development of the religious site.
