Nepal-EU economic forum formed to promote business By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, Feb. 21: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has constituted "Nepal-European Union (EU) Economic Forum" with a view to promote business, commerce and economic assistance between Nepal and the EU. The forum chaired by FNCCI President Ravi Bhakta Shrestha with the Federation member Rohini Thapaliya as its vice-chairman will co-ordinate all the activities in the government and private sector that aim at promoting business between Nepal and the EU. According to the FNCCI, the main objective of the forum include enhancing the relations between the FNCCI and the chambers of the European countries for economic development and expansion of trade and investment in Nepal. It also aims at exchanging information to strengthen ties between the private sector of Nepal and European countries. The forum is established as a non-government organization and is expected to be helpful to increase European investment in Nepal, FNCCI said in a press release. To make the forum efficient there is a provision of setting up an advisory committee to be represented by prominent personalities from political, social-economic and media sector of Nepal and the European Union. The members of the forum include the presidents of Nepal-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NGCCI), Nepal-Britain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NBCCI), Nepal-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NFCCI) and Nepal-BENELUX Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NB-LCCI) and Nepals ex-ambassador to the EU Dr. Durgesh Man Singh. Giap Dang, advisor of European Commission, Honorary Consuls of Austria, Belgium, Italy, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden, economic counselor of the Embassy of Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, the USA and European Commission are the special invitees in the forum. Likewise, Secretary of Finance Ministry and Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies are the special invitees too. The presidents of Computer Association of Nepal, Nepal Association of Travel Agents, Handcraft Association of Nepal, Garment Association of Nepal, and Central Carpet Industries Association are other special invitees. |
