Nepal was once hailed as the most peaceful nation on earth. The proposal floated by the late King Birendra for declaring Nepal as the Zone of Peace was not only appreciated by the international community but was also endorsed by a number of nations. It is sad that the king who floated the message of peace is no more with us. More importantly, the country has been undergoing a state of anarchy. The Maoists are determined to show their strength while the government is bent on crushing it. If both the parties go parallel where is the meeting point? What are the so-called human rights organisations and the moderates doing? Should they not surface up now to mediate or should they continue to remain dormant and watch the drama? By and large, Nepalese are tolerant and peace loving people. It is mere greed for power that has taken this toll. Whatever the reason this senseless killing must be stopped. What we want to see is Nepal revert to its past glory, a nation where Pashupatinath and Buddha preferred to make their permanent dwelling. Birendra
