Public Awareness Vital For Successful Anti-Polio Drive A large number of children die or are forced to live a crippled life due to many health problems, including various infectious diseases and the physical deformities caused by the lack of proper vaccination. One such problem is polio which causes paralysis if the children are not given the polio drops before they are five years of age. Various national immunisations days have been observed in the country targeting all the children under five to be immunised. But due to the lack of awareness and effectiveness of such campaigns, a large number of children are reported to have been deprived of the oral vaccination. Many people in the rural areas are still not aware of the importance of having their kids immunised against the malady that ruins their lives beyond recovery. Therefore, apart from conducting such programmes, the concerned authority should first convince the common folks that polio drops, if given to their children three times in five years time, will prevent them falling prey to the viral disease. This will lead the global campaign to eradicate polio from the face of the earth by 2005 to a great success. Ashok Pandey |
