NC office building construction initiated

Lalitpur, Jan. 25 (RSS): President of the Nepali Congress (NC) Girija Prasad Koirala initiated construction work of the NC central office building amidst a function at Ward No. 2, Sanepa of Lalitpur Sub-Municipal Corporation today.

The five-storied building to be constructed at a cost of Rs 40 million is scheduled to be completed within 18 months.

The building will have a 250-seat capacity hall, two meeting rooms with 50 and 30 seat a library, a press room and a printing press also.

The sprawling six-ropani complex will have a parking area, a garden and a ground for holding general committee meetings.

A covered hall and a porch will also be constructed at the building covering an area of 36,888 square feet, it is learnt.

Then NC President Krishna Prasad Bhattarai had laid the foundation stone for the building in Baisakh, 2053 Bikram year.

At the function today, NC President Koirala said the Nepali Congress stands for principles, policy and ideals and if these do not exist, the party would have no significance.

He said that the construction work had to be initiated as the party had its own offices in various districts and it had become necessary to have a central office building.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said that it was a matter of happiness for the party to have its own building and called upon one and all to lend cooperation for the construction work.

Convenor of the construction committee and NC joint general secretary Govinda Raj Joshi said that those extending their financial cooperation for the construction of the building would be duly honoured.

Convenor of the technical sub-committee Dr. Jagadeesh Pokharel shed light on the technical aspects of the construction work.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress Publicity Department met under the chairmanship of chief of the department and party spokesman Arjun Narsing K.C. at the party’s central office at Teku today.

The meeting has directed all the 75 district working committees of the party to constitute publicity units and report back to the Central Publicity Department on the same.

Meanwhile, chief of the Publicity Department K.C. has appointed member of the department Bandhu Priya Thapa as member-secretary of the department, it is stated in a press release issued today by the Nepali Congress central office.
