Martyrs contributions remembered Lalitpur, Jan. 29 (RSS): Participants, speaking at an interaction on "dreams of martyrs and todays context" organized on the occasion of Martyrs Day today, expressed the view that we should not forget the contributions of martyrs since they died for the sake of the nation and democracy. Joint general secretary of the Nepali Congress Govind Raj Joshi said democracy has no alternative. Stating that consolidation of democracy and uplifting of peoples living standard are the major problems in todays context, Joshi observed that the broader democratic alliance floated by the NC president may solve all these problems. President of Nepal Tarun Dal Bal Krishna Khand noted that the martyrs laid down their lives not for their own sake, but for the sake of the nation and the people. MP Bijul Kumar Bishwokarma complained that the condition of the Dalits has not been improved in the past 12 years of democracy. Former vice chairman of the committee for the uplift of ignored and downtrodden sections of society Ganesh Bahadur Pariyar and others also spoke at the function chaired by president of the Nepal Dalit Association Prof Man Bahadur Bishwokarma. In Janakpurdham, Janakpur Intellectuals Society organised a meeting to pay tributes to martyr Durgananda Jha here on Monday. Ex-lawmaker Shivadhari Yadav noted that the contribution made by martyr Jha for the restoration of democracy is unforgettable. At the meeting presided over by Janakpur Intellectuals Society Chairman Rajeshwar Nepali, Deputy Mayor of Jaleshwar Municipality Kishori Saha, freedom fighter Gyanishankar Giri and ex-mayor Brishesh Chandra Lal spoke on the need of installing a statute of martyr Jha. Meanwhile in Kalaiya, Martyr Muslal Mahato Memorial Trust organised an agricultural exhibition at Dewakilal Dharmshala in memory of martyr Muslal on Monday. Bara DDC vice-chairman Balbir Chaudhary gave away prizes to the farmers who demonstrated excellence in the display of their agricultural products. Rup Narayan Mahato of Dehari VDC came out first, Jit Lal Mandal of the same VDC was runner-up and Ramesh Choudhary of Inarwa VDC third in the exhibition. Other Stories |
