NC criticises kidnapping of partymen

By A Staff Reporter

Kathamndu, June 14: Nepali Congress today said that police and administration had threatened, terrorised and even kidnapped its Mahasamiti members and representatives of the General Convention in different districts of the country.

NC, in statement today, said that police forcefully took NC General Convention representatives of Constituency-3 of Kailali Omkar Mahato and Charan Chaudhari to Kathmandu while both of them were sleeping in mid-night.

The police in uniform had said that they were needed in Kathamdnu as soon as possible, the statement said.

Likewise, Chief District Officer of Baitadi has taken Convention Representatives Raj Bahadur Chanda from Baitadi Constituency-1 and Pratap Singh Thagunna and Bhim Bahadur Chanda of Constituency-2 of the same district under control saying they must be in his surveillance until they are sent to the capital through helicopter.

The NC statement said that similar event had also happened in Dhanusha, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Parsa, Banke, Dang, Surkhet, and Jumla.

"NC strongly condemned the terrorising and kidnapping the NC members by openly abusing the power of police and administration, and by adopting the authoritarian policy," stated the NC press release.

Dubbing the acts as unconstitutional and undemocratic, the release said that the party will strongly protest the acts which are against the spirit of human rights provided by the existing laws and democratic set up.
