Apple farming add to farmer’s income Ramechhap (RSS): There is a great possibility for increasing the income of the farmers of the hilly areas of Ramechhap district through cultivation of apples. Horticulture experts are of the opinion that if the farmers of Shailung Danda take more interest in growing apples on a commercial basis, the apples produced by them could compete with the apples produced in Helambu and Jumla. Shailung Danda located on the border of the district is considered to be feasible place for growing apples on a commercial scale if the area is linked with a road. The apples produced here can easily substitute the apples being imported from India, the experts say. The farmers of Shailung Danda area, Lakhanpur, Khadadevi, Dimi Pokhari, Duhuwa, Gauswara, Thokarpur, Gunsi, Bethan Doramba, Heelidevi, Chuchure and other VDCs of Ramechhap district have already started growing apples in small scale, according to district agriculture development office. |
