Think Of Ailing Economy

Nepal’s economy has not been able to perform well for quite some time. It is primarily because we are overwhelmingly dependent on agriculture sector. Though the economy could progress to the desired extent with growth in the agricultural output, we also need to give emphasis on industries, especially those based on the agro-products. There are only a few existing industries that too have not been able to contribute significantly to the promotion of the national economy. Even the exports of carpets and garments, which had been playing an important role in earning foreign currencies, have turned precarious let alone the other sectors that are facing gradual decline. The already weak economy of Nepal has been further aggravated by the Maoist insurgency that has taken thousands of lives over the past six years. Therefore, the concerned individuals and organisations, both public and private, must give serious thought to this issue before it is too late.
