Prajit strikes twice in Gorkhapatra win, Radio thrash Samacharpatra, Rajdhani beat Himalaya Times

Kathmandu, May 1: Gorkhapatra daily, Radio Nepal and Rajdhani daily entered into the semifinals of the Inter-Media Soccer Tournament being held at All Nepal Football Complex at Satdobato, Lalitpur. The competition is held to celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the Gorkhapatra and 40th anniversary of the Gorkhapatra Corporation.

In the first match of the tournament, host Gorkhapatra struggled to beat Space-Time Daily through the golden goal. After being locked 1-1 draw during the regular time, the host tasted victory in the fourth minute of first half of the golden goal period through forward Prajit Shakya.

Despite making a series of attacks, the Gorkhapatra could not score while Space-Time capitalised one of the many chances that came in their way. Subash Sunuwar gave the lead to Space-Time in 16th minute of the first second half. The host was a bit in disarray with the rival’s lead but regrouped themselves to build the pressures at the rival’s citadel. In one of such moments, Prajit struck to level the match 1-1 in the injury time forcing the match to go into the golden goal period.

In another match, Radio Nepal thrashed Nepal Samacharpatra daily 6-1. Birendra Chaudhary hit four goals that also included the first hat trick of the tournament while Amit Sharma and Captain Santosh Ojha scored one goal each. For Samacharpatra, Krishna Chill scored one goal in the first half. In the third fixture, Rajdhani scored 2-1 victory against Himalaya Times.

Earlier, Minister of State For Sports and Education Narayan Prasad Saud inaugurated the tournament amidst a function.

He praised the media house saying that the Press has contributed for thedevelopment of all walks of the society, including that of sports.

The President of the Gorkhapatra Employees Association-2052 said that the organisation of the tournament is aimed at increasing the friendly and cooperative attitude among the media persons.
