Women Need More Reservation In Job Markets A few years back the government made a provision to appoint at least one female teacher in each public primary school in the country. The decision came as a big solace for the Nepalese women suffering from different discriminations and everybody appreciated it. I do not know whether all the primary schools of the Kingdom have appointed at least a lady teacher, but in my home district in Ilam most of the primary schools have at least a lady teacher. There are some schools where the lady teachers outnumber the male teachers. No doubt, Nepalese women fall do behind their male counterparts in almost all sectors. They have been confined to household activities and have less opportunities to education and employment. As such the new provision has been encouraging for all the women. However, the reservation of merely a post of primary teacher is quite insufficient. Can the government not introduce similar provision in the secondary schools and Tribhuvan University campuses so that more women will get job opportunities. Certainly more women will be encouraged for higher studies if the government introduces reservation system to women in high schools and campuses. Kopila Dulal |
