THE Maoist terrorists carried out cowardly attacks in Jumla and Gorkha the other day in which five dozens security personnel laid down their lives while in the line of duty. All responsible people must condemn these inhuman and cruel attacks of the terrorists. The security personnel fought the ferocious battle in the middle of the night with valour and bravery that finally repulsed the terrorists from Khalanga Bazar, the zonal capital of Karnali Zone and also killed more than five dozens terrorists. The sacrifice of the security personnel for the cause of the people and the nation must be appreciated with national honour. The terrorists have been perpetrating violent activities for the last few years in which more than 5000 security personnel, civil servants, political workers and innocnet people have been killed. The acts of killing, kidnapping, intimidatng and destroying development infrastructures have created an environment of terror in different parts of the country. As a result, the nation has suffered much. The economy has already experienced a downward slide and tourism, the backbone of national economy, has been hardest hit. Development activities have virtually come to standstill. Development is possible only in a peaceful atmosphere. Violence only breeds violence. Nothing can be achieved through violence and terror. We have multi-party democracy, which allows all citizens to carry out their political activities in a peaceful manner. Terrorist activities and violence have never been sucessful anywhere in the world. The global experince has shown that many notorious terrorist groups in different parts of the world have ultimately, realising their mistakes, denounced violence and joined peaceful politics. The outlet and solution of any political problem is the dialogue and negotiation but not the violence. The irony is that the so-called Maoists have been championing the cause of poor people but their violent and terrorists actions have further marginalised the poor masses of the country and made their lives more difficult. The government has kept the doors open for dialogue and negotiation to end the violence. If Maoists are at all a nationalist and political force, they must denounce violence, engage in dialogue and contribute for the development of the nation. The hands that are being misused for killing and destruction can be used for creation and construction. If nation is destroyed the fate of all Nepalese including Maoists themselves is doomed. None can escape when the nation sinks. Maoists must understand this and shun violence. The appeal of the government for dialogue should by no means be taken as its weakness. If need be, the government can be more asseretive and offensive to crush the terrorism and violence, for which security personnel and all civilised citizens are always prepared. Other Story |
