Nepalese boxers had an early exits

KATHMANDU, Oct. 3: In the preliminary bout of the Busan Asian Games Daivii Otgonbayar of Mongolia downed Arjun Kumar Tamang in 21 seconds, while Chotipat Wongprates of Thailand outpointed another Nepalese Tej Kumar Thapa Magar by 15-1 in the bantamweight.AFP adds: Teenage amateur boxing sensation Manon Boonjumnong scored three knockdowns in a scintillating Asian Games debut here Thursday to earn the Thais their second straight win at the Busan Games boxing tournament.

The tall, deliberate right-hander barely broke out a sweat as he disposed of Cambodian welterweight Samreth Ath in 1min 55secs of the first round in a preliminary bout. Earlier, Thai bantamweight Chotipat Wongprates was an overwhelming 15-1 points winner over Tej Bahadur Thapa Magar of Nepal to make it two out of two for the Thais, who won five of the 12 golds on home soil at the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games. Wongprates next fights Kim Won-Il of South Korea in the quarter-finals. Kim outclassed Kazumasa Tsujimoto of Japan. North Korea matched the South, with bantamweight Choe Phyong Chol reaching the quarter-finals with a 26-6 defeat of India's Ng. Dingko Singh. He now faces Abdusalom Khasanov of Tajikistan, who knocked out Serdar Shihimov of Turkmenistan at 1:53min in the fourth round. In the other 54kg matches, Talaibek Kadyraliev of Kyrgyzstan won 25-11 over Abid Ali of Pakistan.

Meshari Al-Fadhli of Kuwait outpointed Cheong Wai of Macau, 17-9, and Tolen Kanatov of Kazakhstan outclassed Cambodian bantamweight Soeurn Mean. Uzbekistan's Bekzod Khidirov, fighting for the second straight day, inflicted the first defeat of the Philippines with a close 11-10 decision over bantamweight Ferdie Gamo. In the other welterweight bouts, Japan won their first boxing match in Busan when Naoki Hirata outpointed Aibek Djenbekov of Kyrgyzstan, 24-23.

Saad Al-Hajraf of Kuwait beat Mohamad Suruj Bangali of Bangladesh, 23-21, while Sherzod Husanov of Uzbekistan overpowered Noor Nawaf Mohamed of Qatar. The referee stopped the contest after two rounds.

Kazakhstan's Sergey Rychko rounded up the afternoon by outclassing Afghan welterweight Mohammad Sadeq Naqhshbande in three rounds.
