Case filed at court

KATHMANDU, Oct. 29: The Department of Revenue Investigation has in accordance with the Foreign Exchange Act 2019 B.S. registered a case at the Kathmandu district court against six different firms on the charge of deflection of foreign exchange.

Those charged are Shaluka Trade Concern, Bhaktapur whose proprietor Abire Tamang has Rs. 24.325 million in arrears at the Rastriya Banijya Bank, Baneswor Branch, Harsha Bahadur Thadamagar of Bro Overseas, Janakpur who has arrears of Rs. 35.566 million at the same bank branch and Govinda Thapa of Gopikrishna International Enterprises, Janakpur who has to repay Rs 33.488 million to Rastriya Banijya Bank, Bhotahity branch.The case was registered following investigations into the findings of a report of the LC probe commission-2052 B.S. which stated that various individuals and firms were involved in deflecting foreign exchange by opening letters of credit (LC) through various commercial banks in the country, which were actually meant for importing goods.

Likewise, Purna Bahadur Khadka of Walson Trade Concern, Bhaktapur has to repay Rs. 22.2,200 million to Nepal SBI Bank Ltd. Kathmandu, Krishna Prasad Dhakal of New Bara Enterprises, Kathmandu Rs. 35.738 million to the same bank and Ganesh Bahadur Basnet of Apsara Trade Concern, Kathmandu has to repay Rs. 36.88 million to Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. Kathmandu.

The total amount of foreign exchange deflected by the above firms equals Rs. 187.47 million, says a statement issued by the department here today.


Vitamin 'A' capsules being administered

KATHMANDU, Oct. 29: The task of feeding Vitamin 'A' capsules to children in the age group of six months to five years began today in all the 75 districts of the country under the national Vitamin 'A' programme conducted by the Ministry of Health.

The local women health volunteers are administering Vitamin 'A' capsules to the children at specified centres of every ward of the municipalities of the Kingdom, the National Vitamin 'A' programme has stated.

In this context, education on nutrition is being imparted to the parents and guardians of children with the objective of inculcating the habit of eating balanced diet containing vitamin a including green leafy vegetables and yellow fruits.

The task of feeding Vitamin 'A' capsules to the children will continue tomorrow.

The target set is to feed Vitamin 'A' capsules today and tomorrow to 3.3 million children across the Kingdom in the age group stated earlier.

About 42 thousand local women volunteers are involved in feeding Vitamin 'A' capsules to the children.
The Ministry of Health has been conducting the programme for the last nine years with the objective of preventing diseases related to eyes including night-blindness, caused by the deficiency of Vitamin 'A' and it is being conducted in all the 75 districts this year.

The programme will help prevent untimely death among more than thirty thousand children a year, it is believed.

Meanwhile, Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City today set up a "Women Health Volunteers Fund" with a sum of Rs 111,500 for the welfare of women involved in feeding Vitamin 'A' capsules to the children.

Executive officer of the Sub-Metropolitan City Komal Prasad Kafle handed over a cheque of the fund to Lalitpur district public health officer Chandra Muni Bajracharya.

On the occasion, Director General of the Department of Health Services Dr. Laxmi Raj Pathak said that setting up of this kind of fund will be an encouragement to women health volunteers.

Executive director of the Nepali Technical Cooperation group of the National Vitamin 'A' Programme Ramkumar Shrestha said this kind of fund has been set up at about 400 places of various municipalities and VDCs and steps are being taken to set them up at other places also.


Govt to run crop diversification programme

TULASHIPUR, Oct. 29: The government is to run crops diversity programme also in Dang district aiming at promoting income rates of the local farmers after introducing new professional methods of agriculture against the prevailing ways of traditional farming.

The programme to be run under the loan assistance of Asian Development Bank will be introduced in 10 different VDCs of the district.

The programme in the selected VDCs will be conducted by the groups of farmers according to their demands regarding the crops production.

Among the selected VDCs and municipalities are Panchkule, Dharna, Lalmateya, Bela, Halwar, Gadhawa, Sonpur, Duruwa, Tulsipur and Tribhuvannagar.

The programme has been launched in 12 different districts of Mid and Far Western Rgions including Dan


Lieutenant General of India meets Chand

KATHMANDU, Oct. 29: Lieutenant general in the Indian Army A. Natarajan paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand at the latter's office at Singha Durbar today.

Matters relating to mutual interest between the two countries were discussed during the meeting.
Indian Charge D'affaires Ashok Kumar was also present on the occasion.

Also today, the visiting Deputy Auditor General (minister level) of the National Auditing Office of the People's Republic Of China, Ling Hu Ahn, met Prime Minister Chand and discussed matters relating to bilateral interest.

Auditor General Bishnu Bahadur KC was also present on the occasion.

Also present at the meeting was Chinese ambassador Wu Congyong.

Similarly, Indian Charge D'affaires Ashok Kumar met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives Badri Prasad Mandal at the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry today.

Various matters of mutual interest were discussed on the occasion, according to the ministry.
