Bank of the year award to Standard Bank

KATHMANDU, Sept. 3: For the first time, a Nepalese bank, Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Ltd., has been awarded the "Bank of the year 2002 Award" by The Banker of the London-based Financial Times group. The award was given for its unrelenting pursuit of the delivery of worldclass banking, a press statement of the bank said Tuesday.

This is one of the most coveted international awards in worldwide banking. It is a significant achievment for bankingindustry of Nepal.

The Banker awards go beyond The Banker's top 2000 global banks ranking, published each July, by looking at more than just hard stastics. Standard Chartered Bank Nepal was chosen for the award from a list of Nepali banks meeting the initial benchmark criteria set by The Banker and invited to enter, the press statement said.

Said Rajeev Kulkarni, CEO Nepal, "By consistently delivering world class performance under difficult business conditions, we have proven ourselves to be the right partner to all our stakeholders."
