Different national and international human rights organisations have accused the Maoists, who have unleashed the acts of terror across the length and breadth of the country for the last seven years, of human rights violations. the Amnesty International in its 2002 report has held the Maoists responsible for deliberate killings, hostage-take, execution-style killing and torture of even the ordinary people. Though there had been some improvement in the human rights situation in Nepal after the Maoists agreed to lay their arms for peace talks last year, it has deteriorated sharply after the Maoists walked out of the peace process and resumed their terrorist activities, which have seen the deaths of more than three thousand people over the past years. Therefore, in such a situation, the Maoists, if they think of themselves as human, should give ups arms and join the peace talks with the government so that peace, the vital element for the national development, restored in the country much to the relief of those who have been suffering from violence and killings.
