Indrawati Hydel Project begins test transmission

KATHMANDU: The Indrawati III Hydel Project with a capacity of 7.5 kilowatt has begun test transmission from Monday. The project run by National Hydro Power Company Ltd. also successfully tested its dam, canal, power house and the 28 kilometre long Indrawati-Paanchkhal 66 KV transmission line. Some 409.7 million units of electricity produced from the project will be linked to the national grid of the Nepal Electricity Authority.

Meanwhile, with the successful experiment of electricity generation from one of the three units under the 7.5 megawatt third hydropower project constructed by National Hydropower Company (NHC), its electricity has been fed to the national grid at Nepal Electricity Authority Panchakhal Sub-station.
According to financial officer of NHC Mahesh Dhakal, NHC had undertaken all construction works under the project like barrage, tunnel and power houses together with 28-KM Indrawati Panchkhal 66 KV Transmission lines. N.B. Group is the promoter of the project. Work on construction of the project on Indrawati, a tributary of Sunkoshi river at Jyamire VDC, Sindhupalchowk began in November 1, 1999.

Under the project, about 54 million units of electricity will be generated a year. Out of the total, 49.7 million units will be purchased by Nepal Electricity Authority under an accord reached with its promoter. It is said that this is the first ever project to be run totally through investments of Nepalese entrepreneurs.
