Chaudhari for policies on education NAWALPARASI, Apr. 18: Chairman of the Raj Parishad Standing Committee Parasu Narayan Chaudhari has said that the government should formulate appropriate policies for the development of the education sector. The Raj Parishad Standing Committee Chairman made this remark while inaugurating the anniversary function of the Tribhuvan Higher Secondary School Beltari today. At the golden jubilee function presided over by chairman of the school management committee Kedar Nath Pandey, chairman Chaudhari presented the long service medals to six teachers and the special service medals to nine persons. On the occasion, he also felicitated 28 individuals providing assistance to the school in various ways. KATHMANDU, Apr. 18: Minister for Water Resources Deepak Gyawali paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister of Bihar State of India Rabri Devi in Patna during a visit from April 15-17. During the meeting, the two dignitaries held consultations regarding inundation in the Nepal-India border, river erosion, floods, and the impact made on the people of both the countries as well as on making effective mutual cooperation and understanding for resolution of the problems. Similarly, the two dignitaries also stressed on moving ahead interactions between the two people by widening the areas of cooperation in the future and on promoting religious tourism. Minister Gyawali also met ex-chief minister of Bihar Lalu Prasad Yadav, Minister for Irrigation and Water Resources of Bihar Jaganananda and chairman of the Bihar State Legislative Council Prof. Javir Hussen, separately. Talking to newsmen on the occasion, Minister Gyawali pointed out the need to launch small and medium sized alternative projects as long term projects have their own duration of time, investment and pace in utilisation of water resources. He also called on Indian investors to invest in the water resources sector. Minister Gyawali also went on an aerial inspection of the inundated areas of Nepal-India border and the affected areas and acquired information. RONAST presents awards to various persons LALITPUR, Apr. 18: Royal Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (RONAST) today presented various awards of the year 2059 to eight scientists making outstanding contributions in the field of science and technology. RONAST presented His Majesty King Birendra Science and Technolocy Award to Dr. Keshav Raj Rajbhandari, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Youth Science and Technology Award to Dr. Megh Raj Pokharel, Dr. Lalu Prasad Paudel, Dr. Prakash Ghimire and Dr. Surendra Joshi, Science and Technology Promotion Award to Prof. Dr. Bajra Nandan Prasad and Twash Youth Award to Dr. Rajendra Parajuli and Dr. Tanka Nath Dhamala. Minister for Water resources and RONAST academician Dipak Gyawali, on the occasion, said that the system of rewarding and encouraging in the field of science and technology was less as compared to other fields and expressed the view that the nation and society should not lag behind in honouring scientists engaged in creative activities. Minister Gyawali pointed out the need to ensure coordination with the national and international agencies concerned with water resources and undertake studies and research works to derive maximum benefit. Bikal awarded Deb Kumari literature award BIRATNAGAR, Apr. 18: Prose writer Ramesh Bikal was presented the Deb Kumari Thapa Children's Literature Award-2059 and poet Tulasi Diwas the Banita Literature Award-2059 at a programme organised by the Banita Publications Family, Biratnagar today.The Deb Kumari Thapa Children's Literary Award carries a purse of Rs. 10,000.Founder of the Deb Kumari Thapa Children's Literature Award Jaleshari Shrestha has set up a revolving fund of Rs. 100,001 for the award. Majority of Nepalese women suffer fatal complexities RSS BIRGANJ, Apr 18: Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Gore Bahadur Khapangi declared open the 13th central gathering of Nepal Cancer Relief Society here today. Some 200 observers and representatives from 33 different districts of the Kingdom are participating in the two-day gathering. Majority of women in Nepal have been suffering from fatal complexities like cancer of uterus and breast owing to the lack of proper health awareness, education and consultations, the speakers of the programme pointed out. They emphasised the need of testing urine of women at least once a year and improving their diet and conducts for preventing cancer of uterus and breast. Women are to consult concerned health specialists in time in case of symptoms like white sticky discharge from the vagina, bleeding except in time of menstruation, bleeding after intercourse, aching of lower stomach, aching of backbone etc as these indicate complexities in uterus, which often results in cancer, they said. Cancer is treated mainly through surgery, radiotherapy,
chemotherapy and hormonotherapy. Also speaking on the occaison were former chairman of the Society Dr. Anjani Kumar Sharma, general secretary of the Society Girendra Man Rajbanshi and others. The programme was presided over by central chairman of the Society Divakar Rajkarnikar. 'Retrogression unfortunate for democracy' KATHMANDU, Apr. 18: Speakers at a talk programme organised on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the Nepal Students' Union (NSU) here today said that the country was being taken towards retrogression and the country would not tolerate such a move. The speakers expressed dissatisfaction with the activities of the present leadership and warned that if the leadership leads the party to retrogression, it would be unfortunate for the institution of the crown and the democracy as well. At the programme, general secretary of the Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala said that the institution of the Crown would be strong only if the King agrees to stay within the Constitution. At the programme presided over by NSU central president Guru Raj Ghimire, spokesman of the Nepali Congress Arjun Narsingh K.C., president of the ANNFSU (Unified) Krishna Adhikari, central member Dil Bahadur Gharti, former NSU general secretaries Chandra Bhandari, Umesh Jung Rayamajhi, Bishwa Prakash Sharma, NSU general secretary Gagan Thapa, former president of the NSU Dhan Raj Gurung, Govinda Bhattarai and others also addressed the programme. |
