'Dr Hagen was true friend of the nation' KATHMANDU, April 21: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Kuber Parasad Sharma has expressed profound grief at the untimely demise of Geologist Dr. Toni Hagen, describing him as a true friend of Nepal, and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.Minister Sharma, in a statement, said the contributions made by Dr. Hagen to introducing Nepal and the Nepalese to the world would be remembered for ever and recalled the publicity carried out by him for Nepal's geographical, natural and cultural heritage and his contributions in the social, economic and cultural development of this country. Minister Sharma also expressed confidence that the contributions of the late Dr. Hagen in the identification, protection and promotion of tourism potential in Nepal will always provide inspiration to the Nepalese. NC-D leaders stress separate peaceful move KATHMANDU, April 21: Central members of the Nepali Congress (Democratic) expressed their views on the political and organisational consolidation of the party at Central Working Committee (NWC) meeting today.A communique published by the party later states that the central members called for a separate peaceful movement so as not to let the country slide towards regression and to safeguard the achievements of the 1990 movement. They also spoke of the need to make the ceasefire between the government and the Maoists permanent, sustainable and trustworthy. The speakers called for taking the party organisation down to the village level, and bringing in concrete programmes for Dalits, indigenous people, nationalities and women. Some of the speakers during the discussion demanded clarification on the recently uttered views of the party's joint general secretary.They also demanded concrete programmes from the state for providing relief to the families of thousands of party workers who were either killed or displaced. The meeting is scheduled to convene tomorrow also. TAAN expresses profound grief KATHMANDU, April 21: The Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN) has expressed profound grief at the demise of Dr Toni Hagen, who loved Nepal and the Nepalese and introduced the culture and bidodiversity of the country to the outside world thereby making a significant contribution in the promotion of tourism in the country.In a statement published here today, TAAN has extended condolences to the bereaved family. NLRC seeks information on laws enacted so far RSS KATHMANDU, April 21: Nepal Law Reforms Commission (NLRC) has decided to acquire information from the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on laws enacted so far, the laws remaining to be formulated and drafts already worked out in accordance with the Constitution of the Kingdom Nepal 1990. It has also decided to take necessary action on priority basis. A meeting presided over by Commission Chairman Niranjan Thapa here today also decided to take necessary action in connection with preparation of the drafts for various laws to make the commission more effective and efficient. The meeting has decided to request the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to provide a list of the necessary laws to be formulated for various Ministries of HMG, and to acquire information from the ministry on the draft of laws already formulated by the Commission. Members and the member secretary of the commission, the secretary at the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the secretary at the Judicial Council Secretariat, the Supreme Court registrar and the Deputy Attorney General attended the meeting. |
